Important Information for Parents of Seniors

Graduation for the class of 2018 is approaching quickly.  In order to help us start preparing for this momentous occasion, we would like to share the following information with you.   All students who have completed requirements and have no “U”s on their transcript can participate in the graduation ceremony.  Graduation will be held:

Date:          Friday, June 1, 2018

Time:                   8:00 p.m.

Location:   Dee Events Center, Weber State University

Graduation ceremonies will be streamed live for those that are unable to attend.  There will be a link at www.weber.edu on the Weber State University home page.  The link is located on the bottom right hand side of the home page under WSU TODAY section. This is done to help accommodate family and friends serving in the military, those unable to attend due to illness, and those living too far away to come to this important event.

Parking:  There is no charge for parking at the Dee Events Center.  Please plan on 10 to 15 minutes to walk from your car to your seats.  Campus police will ticket vehicles that are parked in undesignated areas or that are parked illegally.

Seating:   No tickets are required for graduation ceremonies for BEHS and there is no charge for entrance.  You may invite as many as you wish to this special event.  However, graduation ceremonies may not be interesting to very young children.  Doors will open for seating at 7:30 p.m. Keep in mind that the young ladies will be seated on the right side of the floor  (facing the stage) during commencement and the young men will be seated on the left side of the floor (facing the stage). Please choose your seating so that you can get the best view of your graduate during the ceremony.

If anyone in your family needs seating accommodations for wheelchairs or other accommodations, please plan to arrive early.  Seating will be made available for the individual and one family member to be seated with them.  Space does not allow for entire families to be seated in the wheelchair area. Those requiring wheelchair seating should enter through portals 18, 19 or 3.

  • PLEASE no air horns or noisemakers!  We appreciate this is a time of celebration, but it should be enjoyable for EVERYONE.  Air horns often prevent spectators from being able to hear the next name read as the graduates cross the stage and can be painful for those who must wear hearing aids.  Please be respectful of others and the desire of every person in the Dee Events Center to hear their special graduate’s name as they cross the stage.  Balloons are not allowed in the Dee Events Center.

Pictures:  Please allow plenty of time for photo opportunities BEFORE graduation begins – pictures with your family and friends are important and should be taken before your graduate proceeds to the tunnels or outside following commencement.  Spectators will NOT be allowed on the floor following graduation.  Family and friends should establish a meeting place outside of the Dee Events Center ahead of time and greet graduates there following the ceremony.

Caps and Gowns:  Make sure you take your gown out of the package and hang it shortly after you receive it.  Taking it out of the package the day of graduation will not allow enough time for the wrinkles to fall out.  These gowns should not be ironed with a hot iron.  They will melt!  Alterations to the original cap and gown will not be allowed!  Do not wear flowers (including corsages and leis), large necklaces or beads, badges, stickers, rhinestones, reflective tape, etc.

Cell Phones and IPods:  Students will not be allowed to carry or use a cell phone or IPod during the graduation ceremony.  Please leave them with a family member or friend.

Graduates:

You should arrive at the Dee Events Center by 7:30 p.m. for graduation

  • All graduates should dress appropriately…please remember to keep this special event dignified by your actions and appearance.  No shorts!
  • Girls should try to wear lighter colored dresses (pastels etc.).  Girls’ gowns are white and darker colors tend to change the appearance of the gown and make it appear dingy and gray.  Please think about the distance you will be walking when choosing footwear (high heels and flip flops can be a very dangerous choice – please refrain from wearing those types of shoes!)
  • Boys:  Slacks, shirt and tie are appropriate dress.
  • Please do not chew gum!
  • At the beginning of graduation, the tassel is to be hanging on the right side.

Failure to comply with these rules will result in the graduate not being allowed to walk as well as being issued an Administrative U that requires service hours to be completed before the diploma will be issued.

Scholarship and Military Reporting Deadline: Scholarships and military enlistment should be reported to the Counseling Center no later than May 11th for inclusion in the program for Scholarship and Awards Night (held Monday, May 21st at 6:30 p.m. in the Box Elder High School Auditorium). Scholarships and military enlistments reported after the deadline will not be indicated on the program and will not be recognized at the Scholarship and Awards Night.  It is the student’s responsibility to report this information to the counseling office!  Scholarship cords must be purchased from Mrs. Gunn in the financial office during the school day.  The cost is $5.00.  Cords will not be available for purchase at graduation.
