Laura Dean from Willard, representing Box Elder High School, was honored March 8th as Vocal Performance Sterling Scholar Winner for 2017. Her parents are Robert and Margie Dean.
The purpose of the Sterling Scholar Awards is to publicly recognize and encourage the pursuit of excellence in scholarship, leadership and citizenship of high school graduating students.
The Sterling Scholar Awards Program seeks to commend and encourage excellence among all nominees, who are judged equally on the basis of scholastic achievement without regard to religion, sex, political preference or national origin. The sponsors salute the extraordinary development of the talents and ideals of each year’s outstanding scholars.
Laura commented: "Music helps provide some of my greatest joy, make connections in my community and school, and impact others’ lives through performance. There is nothing like the exhilaration of taking the stage. I dream of one day having the opportunity to sing in the Metropolitan Opera House or in some grand opera venue in Italy. On a more personal level, I want to share music with my future family like my mother has done for me. At a young age, she raised me with an exposure to real, quality music. She nurtured my appreciation for classical music. One of my life goals is to raise my future children in a similar manner."
Laura has accomplished many things over her time at Box Elder High with scholarship, cumulative 4.0 GPA; 28 composite ACT; a National Semifinalist of Classical Singer Competition and two-time NATS Competition 1st place winner. Congratulations Laura!
