With the first “early decision” college-application deadline looming on Nov. 1 and tuition costs having more than doubled since the 1980s, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its 2019's Best College & University Rankings as well as accompanying videos, in addition to separate rankings for colleges and for universities.
To help college-bound seniors make the most informed school choices, WalletHub compared nearly 1,000 higher-education institutions in the U.S. based on 30 key measures grouped into seven categories, such as Student Selectivity, Cost & Financing and Career Outcomes. The data set ranges from student-faculty ratio to graduation rate to post-attendance median salary.

Dear KidsOutAndAbout.com readers:
I absolutely love this event! KUED Kids is gearing up for the 26th Annual Reading Marathon Kickoff on Saturday, November 3 from 9 am to noon at The Salt Lake City Public Library.
This event is designed for children from preschool to sixth grade and their families. Everyone can meet their favorite PBS Kids characters, pick up a reading log, take home a free book, and enjoy fun science activities in celebration of National Chemistry Week.
KUED Kids 26th Annual Reading Marathon Kickoff
Salt Lake City Public Library
210 East 400 South
Saturday, November 3
9 am to noon
The annual Reading Marathon encourages children to read or be read to 20 minutes each day from November 1 to 30 and to log their minutes on a special form they can get at the event or download online. Children who complete the 20 minutes a day and turn in their forms by December 15 will receive the KUED Kids Adventure Pass that includes tickets and coupons to museums, zoos, and activities around town so that you can (wait for it) get out and about!
Tons of other organizations will be joining the event with fun activities. You'll see representatives from Clark Planetarium, Salt Lake County Library, The Leonardo, Discovery Gateway, the Natural History Museum of Utah, Red Butte Garden, Thanksgiving Point, Tracy Aviary, KUER, and others.
This is a huge event -- last year 1,500 people attended the Reading Marathon Kickoff. Underground parking is accessible from Eastbound 400 South between 200 and 300 East. It's free for the first half-hour, then $1.50 for each half-hour after that. The Library TRAX station is just north of the library, and that's a great option, too.
Visit kued.org for more information or to print out a reading log and get started reading!
Best,
Debra Ross
