Harrisville—The Highway 89 construction problem was addressed at a meeting with Mayor Bruce Richins, Council Member Michelle Tait, several Harrisville staff members and  Kris Peterson, the Director of UDOT Region 1, along with several of his staff. Several officials from the Charter School on the corner of Highway 89 and Wall Avenue were also present along with the North View Fire Chief.

The concerns with the median recently installed on Highway 89 near Larsen Lane were discussed, including the comments from the council meeting by residents in the community. Mr. Peterson listened and expressed his understanding. All parties focused on resolving concerns with public safety while avoiding blame and accusations. The meeting was productive.  Mr. Peterson took the matter under advisement and committed to contacting Mayor Richins within a few days with a decision. Mr. Peterson did contact Mayor Richins with a compromise solution where access to North Harrisville Road will be restored. Also, other modifications may be made at the discretion of UDOT and information will be forthcoming. Progress is being made regarding the infamous Highway 89 median! Residents will now again have access to North Harrisville Road coming off of the highway. Thank you to those who spoke out. Your voices were heard! I express appreciation to UDOT for their negotiations with the City and resolving the median issues.

It has been great success for the Farmers’ market that has been held on Thursday evenings. It is hopeful that this even will return next year. Harrisville City wishes to thank all who have participated in the success of the market.
