I Hate Forced Socializing
"At a recent work dinner, my colleagues talked over me and I'm sure they perceive me as timid, boring, etc. It's the same with the other parents at school. I don't feel socially awkward with people who know me, though, like my husband and best friend." FEELING INVISIBLE
When Friends Ask About Accommodations
"My middle-schooler's friends ask about her schedule, why she has two teachers, etc., and she hates this. I've told her she has nothing to be ashamed of, everyone needs help from time to time, pointed out her strengths, and so on." SEEKING INPUT
Medication on Busy vs. "Empty" Days
"I find that on busy work days, medication really helps, but on days at home with nothing but my to-do list, my meds make me almost manic: Irritability at 115%, crying, panicking." ANYONE ELSE?
My Daughter Has Trouble Keeping Friends
"My teen has friends at school, but no one to hang out with on weekends. I think this stems in part from some immaturity and clinginess. For example, if a friend doesn't text back immediately, she'll keep texting again and again." ANY THOUGHTS?
Heartbroken By My Husband's ADHD
"When my husband is around other people, he gives them undivided attention, but he can't seem to ever focus on me anymore. It's gotten to the point that I feel like the man I love and married is gone." STARTING TO DESPAIR
Kids' Books or Other Resources About ADHD
"I want to help my newly diagnosed 11-year-old understand his ADHD. Does anyone have any books or other resources they can recommend?" THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Governor Jeb Bush and ExcelinEd to Honor
Eva Moskowitz at 2018 National Summit on Education Reform
Media Registration for #EIE18 is Open
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Foundation for Excellence in Education (ExcelinEd) today announced that Eva Moskowitz, the founder and CEO of Success Academy Charter Schools, will be honored at the 2018 National Summit on Education Reform (#EIE18) on Friday, December 7, in Washington, D.C. ExcelinEd’s flagship annual event brings together educators from across the country and around the globe to strategize on improving education for all children.
During a special closing keynote, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, founder and chairman of ExcelinEd, will present Moskowitz with the Excellence in Education Award for her work on behalf of New York City’s most disadvantaged students.
“This award recognizes the tremendous service and accomplishments of education innovator Eva Moskowitz, one of America’s most passionate advocates for children. For more than a decade, the Success Academy Charter Schools she founded have served students too often overlooked in traditional classrooms, demonstrating to the world that every student receiving a quality education has the capacity to learn and succeed,” said Governor Bush. “Eva’s longstanding commitment to excellence has changed the future for thousands of students in New York City, and ExcelinEd is honored to recognize her and welcome her as a speaker at the 2018 National Summit on Education Reform.”
In 2006, Moskowitz created Success Academy Charter Schools—the largest and best-performing public charter school network in New York City—to address an education system that was both dysfunctional and inequitable. Known as the “charter czarina,” Moskowitz has taken on the powerful and entrenched education special interests to guide thousands of disadvantaged students to academic success.
