Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive leadership conference organized by Rotary clubs and districts where participants develop their skills as a leader while having fun and making connections.  The Utah RYLA conference is scheduled for September 20 – 23, 2017.  The Brigham City Rotary Club is accepting applications from current freshman and sophomores to attend this year’s RYLA.

RYLA consists of an all-expense paid three-day conference that brings together a special group of young men and women from across Utah to share ideas about becoming better leaders. Action-packed activities, like problem solving games, challenge course, group discussions, teambuilding activities, and world famous motivational speakers help participants build confidence and leadership skills.

Current freshman and sophomore students who are interested in applying for this year’s RYLA conference should pick up an application in their school’s counseling office or contact Jim Moore at jim@mvengr.net or Monica Holdaway at monicaholdaway@hotmail.com. After receipt of applications the Rotary Club committee will interview applicants.  There are a limited number of spots available for RYLA.

April 14, 2017

Dear Parents,

Recently, our SRO Justin Zimmerman shared a bit of information about “safety factors” that schools across the country are using to promote the safety of students, faculty, and staff.  The top four of these safety measures are:

Controlled access to buildings during school hours Use of security cameras to monitor the school campus Requirement of faculty and staff to wear badges or picture IDs Enforcement of a strict dress code

While some of these factors limit access to those who might enter with an intent to do harm, others help to control unwanted behaviors.

In light of this recent information, we reviewed our efforts with each factor, and decided it might be helpful for you to understand our actions taken with each.

Controlled Access:  After the tardy bell each morning, we lock every access to the building with the exception of the front entry doors and the north doors near Franklin hall.  (This doorway provides access for students to and from CTE classes housed in the old Franklin wing.)         *Note: The District helped us install two new card access locks making this additional security possible.

Security Cameras:  We have 78 security cameras that allow us to monitor our campus 24 hours a day.

ID Badges:  Currently, only our office aides, visitors, and substitute teachers are required to wear badges or IDs.  We are hoping to address this item with our faculty and implement a more stringent requirement for next school year.

Dress Code:  We are encouraged at the number of students who abide by a dress code that supports a healthy academic environment.  This safety measurement discourages inappropriate behaviors.

We take school safety seriously and work daily to provide a safe learning environment for our staff and students.

We hope you find this information helpful.
