Sen. Lee Statement on End of Government Shutdown
WASHINGTON – Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) issued the following statement after President Trump announced the end of the government shutdown:
“It is of course a relief that the shutdown is over. But the shutdown was not created by the crisis on the border. It was created by the failure of Congress to do its job. The way we are doing things now is convenient for politicians, but not for the American people. Government funding and immigration policy shouldn’t be a secret negotiation, but an open debate on the floors of the House and Senate. That’s the only way the American people can be included in this process.”

Bishop Statement on Reopening of Federal Government
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has announced his willingness to support a continuing resolution to fully fund the government through February 15 and provide backpay for the furloughed and unpaid federal employees. Following President Trump’s address from the White House Rose Garden, Rep. Rob Bishop (UT-01) issued this statement:
“I am pleased workers will be paid. It’s about time. However, I can’t yet celebrate until we find a lasting solution, which includes a secure border. Now let’s do it.”

“President Trump’s announcement of the reopening of the federal government is welcome news, as it will bring thousands of our employees back to work and return us to our mission of providing our customers with the services they rely upon. I extend my sincere thanks to the thousands of USDA workers who stayed on the job during the shutdown to offer as many of our normal activities as we could. The President has already signed legislation that guarantees backpay for all employees, and we will move forward on that as soon as possible. Meanwhile, we will prepare for a smooth reestablishment of USDA functions.
“There will now be sufficient time for Congress to come to an agreement with the President on his pledge to protect our national security by securing our southern border with a reliable, effective barrier.”

Utah Senate to hold daily media availability
What:
The Senate President will host a daily media availability every weekday during the legislative session, immediately following morning floor time. Members of the Senate Majority and Minority leadership will be available to answer questions during the informal Q&A.
The media availability will be lived streamed on the Senate’s Facebook page. The stream will be recorded and uploaded at a later time to the Senate’s YouTube page.
