======================

A weekly report on education news and commentary you won’t find anywhere else — from the nation’s leading voice on education innovation and opportunity.

WHILE THE MEDIA IS TRANSFIXED ON THE MUELLER REPORT, who is watching our schools? Read Jeanne's take on staying focused - in an age of endless distractions - on the issues that matter the most to families, communities, and country. “Perhaps we need a Mueller Report for education,” says our Founder & CEO.

SMALL STATE - BIG IDEAS. From Rhode Island comes news of a truly innovative program  establishing a graduate school of education in a charter school. The Learning Community charter school is establishing a graduate school of education, the first time that such a program has been awarded to a public school in the state.  The idea of schools embedding teacher education where the teacher lives and breaths is but should not be a novel idea. Others in the charter space innovating to incorporate their own accredited graduate schools of education include  California's High Tech high , Boston’s MATCH Charter School and New York’s Success Academy. Great teaching begets great learning. Now, if only the unions would admit it…

MEDIUM STATE - BAD IDEAS.  New Mexico’s newish Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham comes from a long line of well respected leaders from the land of Enchantment. Her pedigree has many scratching their heads and this disenchantment over her Secretary of Education messing with the state’s leading charter school which far surpasses the traditional district on all measures.   Learn why Mission Achievement and Success (MAS) Charter School has to turn its attention and resources to political battles in this week’s Reality Check live this Wednesday.

MOTHER KNOWS BEST.  As you might recall, a committee of the New Hampshire House had voted to end a long running scholarship tax credit, creating a fury among parents for whom the program was a life saver. Reminding those short-sighted legislators that their ideology-driven jihad against empowering parents and students has real-world consequences, the mother of an 8 year old with special needs simultaneously tutors the lawmakers and takes them to the woodshed. Legislators - moms know what’s best for their kids!

THE HOTTEST EVENT ON THE PLANET.  Join us at the ASU+GSV X the most dynamic, cross industry, ed tech event you’ll ever attend. Founded by Arizona State University’s dynamic president Michael Crow, and the team at Global Silicon Valley (GSV) the premier venture capital fund investing in cutting edge entrepreneurs in the $75 billion education and talent technology sectors, the the 10th annual ASU+GSV Summit will explore the Arc of Human Potential, from  “preK to Gray.” Are you ready?

IS EDREFORM THE NEW BLUE? And if not, why do the leading foundations overwhelmingly fund organizations to allegedly do education reform that are mainly run by Democrats? (When it’s clear that innovation and opportunity are non-partisan issues??) This week’s episode of Reality Check with Jeanne Allen delves into the controversy surrounding a new report by AEI’s Rick Hess, o and Jay Greene, of the University of Arkansas, “Education’s Deep Blue Hue.” Is political correctness stalling out reform efforts across the country, even as local communities and educators struggle to achieve their goals? Tune in to this episode of Reality Check for a fascinating discussion.

MOTOR CITY SCRIBES WRITE IT RIGHT. Detroit is known as one of the most dysfunctional cities in the country, which makes a recent editorial in the Detroit News all the more noteworthy. “A damning new study dispels the myth that more money is the cure for education’s failures”.  We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

As they say at the Saran factory, that’s a wrap. As always, your comments and suggestions are most welcome.

Founded in 1993, the Center for Education Reform aims to expand educational opportunities that lead to improved economic outcomes for all Americans — particularly our youth — ensuring that conditions are ripe for innovation, freedom and flexibility throughout U.S. education.

Tampa, FL - March 27, 2019 - Posthardcore band LIMBS has premiered a hard-hitting new single, "Abandoned," streaming now exclusively on Metal Injection. Additionally, the band has announced that longtime friend Austin McAuley will bestepping into the role of lead vocalist. McCauley debuted with LIMBS at the end of 2018 while on tour with Currents, giving fans a taste of his energy and passion before bringing it into the studio for new music.

"'Abandoned' is quite literally a narrative of struggling to accept one's own flaws. It represents the rejecting of negative emotions, coupled with a perpetual need for self-preservation," guitarist Jordan Hunter explains. "We wrote this song differently than any song we've ever written before - all together in a room from start to finish. We've definitely adopted a more collective-based style of writing as opposed to having one person write most things primarily. "

He adds: "We've really taken a new approach to writing songs collectively, and Austin coming into the picture was a direct cause of that. He was already close with the band prior to his induction, so the camaraderie has been second-nature while on the road and in the studio. He's a terrific fit."

LIMBS will be back on the road this spring for the "Feel Nothing Tour" with The Plot In You, Like Moths To Flames, and Dayseeker. The full-U.S. run kicks off in Grand Rapids on March 30th, with additional stops in Chicago, Brooklyn, Atlanta, LIMBS' hometown of Tampa, and more. For a full list of upcoming tour dates, please see below or visit www.whoislimbs.com.

Last year LIMBS found a home with UNFD, ahead of the April release of their debut album Father's Son, which gives listeners a dark and brooding look at a young man's journey out of religion as he comes to terms with both his upbringing and his own actions.. A conceptual album following a young man breaking free from his indoctrinated upbringing, the album explores the harm it causes and the strength in reclaiming your own life.

LIMBS' latest live video for their album's title track, "Father's Son," was filmed during the band's 2018 tour with Underoath, Dance Gavin Dance, and Veil Of Maya. Streaming HERE the video captures the electricity and raw power of a LIMBS live show - from headbanging to epic stage dives and beyond. Experience it for yourself when LIMBS hits the stage later this year.

"I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity and am very excited for everything in the future. Joining LIMBS really has pushed me musically, and creating these new jams has me so hyped," McAuley shares. "Stepping into this new role has definitely been challenging in some aspects, but it's given me the privilege to join my closest friends on stage every night, as well as further develop the standards in our writing. I believe this new music heavily reflects our movement forward, and quite frankly I'm ready to release more."

"Abandoned" will be available everywhere this Friday, March 29th.
