Parents,
What a remarkable year it has been. Thank you for the amazing work you are doing to support your student. This investment in kids is a fantastic endeavor and one that yields great fruits. As we enter into the stretch run of the final term, we are all excited to see the Class of 2016 go into the world and do amazing things! At the same time, we are beginning to prepare for next year as we begin to look ahead. I want to announce a change in next year's schedule as we will begin offering a FLEX period 4 days per week here at Fremont. On every day but the late start day, there will be a 50 minute mandatory period (for credit) where students will report to a "Homeroom" class and then, through a system of "passes" a student or teacher can initiate, the student will be able to go and get help from other teachers throughout the building. Students are required to go as the class will be Pass/Fail and attendance credit associated with it. The FLEX period is consistent with research that indicates students learn best (and most effectively) when they have "frequent and timely" opportunities to learn/relearn information. It's existence is consistent among high achieving schools. FLEX will provide opporunities for students to make up work as well as improve learning during school hours. It also helps students taking AP/Concurrent classes to extend learning, and stay caught up on rigorous coursework with so many demands on their time. Concepts will be retaught during FLEX, counselors will help students with scholarships during this time, and ACT prep courses will be held to help enhance college and career readiness. FLEX will also provide opportunities to take additional courses for college credit! We will be educating students, parents, and faculty further on this class and how it can be benefit you and your student as we go. Information will be mailed home to inform you... but we want you to know that we are so very excited as a school for this opportunity. The class will be held between 1st and 2nd periods and its clear objective is to improve student achievement for ALL students and provide learning support for all students. Teachers will be able to provide greater support for students who need more time and strategic placement of students for FLEX will ensure they get the help they need in the areas they need it. As I said, we will be in touch with more detailed information, but if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me electronically or by phone.

ACCREDITATION
This past week was our "ACCREDITATION," which is conducted every 6 years. We report that it went extremely well. It was remarkable to hear the independent voices of outside educators observe, recognize, and celebrate the school culture we know exists among students, faculty/staff, and parents here at Fremont. The team recognized outstanding, powerful instructional practices and a tremendous culture - feeling of family (team) that exists here. The work of teachers, community, and students was instrumental in the success we enjoyed and it was reflected in the scores that were nearly all ABOVE the national average. There was special note made of the culture of the school and other scores that were high included scores in supporting learning environment, classroom management, and digital learning. Each of these, I know, teachers have worked hard to make a part of their everyday high impact instruction. The visiting team interviewed 63 teachers, 24 community members, 87 students, and many others. While there are always areas in need of improvement (and that is provided as well), we came away from the review with a sense of gratitude and enthusiasm/focus on the optimistic future of Fremont and its students. Thank you to all of your for making Fremont great and for all of those who participated in the accreditation as well! It was a Great Day to be a Silverwolf!
