Updates from Organizations - Government agencies - Advertise Various Artists

Thursday, October 4, 2018 - 1:45pm

The Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) has a number of women and leadership announcements (research, events, and resources) this month from our work and that of our partners:

First, we have three new resources: 1) we are pleased to announce the release of a new UWLP “What Can I Do?” two-pager titled, “What Male Allies Can Do to Strengthen the Impact of Utah Women in Workplace Settings.” Thanks to Adobe for hosting the related gathering and for the National Advisory Board of the Woodbury School of Business for their sponsorship; 2) we also have a new podcast titled “Domestic Violence Among Utah Women,” just released in our Utah Women & Leadership Podcast Series (you can listen/download on iTunes or on the UWLP blog); and 3) the UWLP and YWCA Utah have released our next impact recommendation report on “Entrepreneurship & Women-Owned Businesses.” Thanks to the Women’s Business Center of Utah for their partnership on this as well.

Second, the next UWLP community event is planned for November 1st, 2018 (6:30-8:30 pm, UVU). The keynote speaker will be President Astrid S. Tuminez, UVU’s new president. Come and meet her for our “Unlocking Your Potential: Strengths, Communication,  & Networking” evening, and then join one of these workshops (see page two of flyer):

  • What is Your Super Power? Discover Your Strengths as Young Women (Dr. Susan R. Madsen, Belinda Han, & Dr. Cynthia Wong)
  • Asking for What You Want (& Not Feeling Guilty About It) (Dr. Jessica Egbert, Anjali Pai, & Michele Bates)
  • Making Connections: How to Build a Strong Network for Women (Dr. Christy Glass & Neylan McBaine)

See more details on the flyer and RSVP online now.

Third, our partners are hosting some wonderful events this month as well:

Finally, my new LinkedIn article is titled, “Women and Crying in Workplace Settings.” See all my recent LinkedIn articles here. We also want to highlight a video of one of our workshops last year: “Building Resilience in Girls & Young Women” (Dr. Matthew J Swenson, MD). Don’t forget to check out our community calendar that lists most of the women’s events held in the state of Utah!

Enjoy October!

Inland Empire, CA - Assuming We Survive have released a new song today called "Make It Out Alive" and they waste no time hitting you with dynamic riffs and soaring melodies that fans are going wild for. The "high-energy catchy rock" track is quintessential Assuming We Survive, delivering catchy vocal hooks from undeniable front man Adrian Estrella. Check out the track that "comes out swinging" exclusively with Substream Magazine, here.

On the track, the band shared"Our good friend Kris Comeaux sent us over the music and we instantly connected with it. We felt the energy of the song and the lyrics flowed naturally. The song was written about how life can beat you down or inspire you to conquer it, along with the changes that occur as you become older and prove those wrong who doubted you. The song you hear is a culmination of Kris Comeaux, AWS, and Tyler Smyth's production."

Chapters is the culmination of 2 years of struggles and triumphs. Along with producer Tyler Smyth (Danger Kids, Bless the Fall, Falling In Reverse), the band aimed to make a record that "breaks the mold" and takes the well-known passion, fun and energy of Assuming We Survive to the next level. Chapters is the band at its best and proves they have a lot more music to give. The 6-track EP is due out October 12th via Third String Records and is available for pre-order here.
