The power of a brand is huge, that’s why Business.org wanted to find out America’s favorite brands. What we found was surprising, mainly that the most popular brand overall was UPS with eight states choosing the logistics giant as their favorite. FedEx, on the other hand, is only the favorite in one state.

With that in mind, we wanted to share upcoming holiday dates this season on the last days you can send gifts to loved ones so that they get there by December.

Important Shipping Info Dates:

  • Friday, December 14 - Last day to ship by Ground with FedEx, UPS, and the USPS.
  • Thursday, December 20 - Last day to ship First Class or Priority Mail by the USPS, 2Day Services from FedEx, or 2nd Day Air Services from UPS.
  • Friday, December 21 - Last day to ship FedEx Overnight Services.
  • Saturday, December 22 - Last day to ship Priority Mail Express from USPS or Next Day Air Services from UPS.

Other Interesting highlights from the study:

  • The states that favor UPS above the others are: Utah, Texas, New Mexico, Maryland, Idaho, Arkansas, Illinois, and Georgia.
  • The state that favors FedEx? Tennessee.
  • New York has four most popular brands: Colgate, IBM, American Express, and Nike. There’s a touch of irony there since Nike is not the most popular brand in its home state, Oregon. That honor goes to Honda and Intel.
  • Hawaii went high class with its most popular brands: Louis Vuitton and Sony.
  • When it comes to car brands, Honda is winning. The Japanese automaker is most popular in 5 states, whereas BMW, Toyota, and Mercedes are most popular in 1 state each.
  • Whatever you might think about McDonald’s, it’s the only fast food brand to be most popular AND it did so in 5 states.

Methodology: We crossed referenced the World’s Most Valuable Brands with America’s Most Loved Brands to gather our initial list. We then used Google Trends to find out which brands Americans are searching for most to gather our own list of Most Popular Brands.

According to many experts, school must be more relevant if kids are to thrive in the fourth industrial revolution, and research indicates that students exposed to project based learning (PBL) are making significantly greater academic gains than students taught with traditional approaches. As students gain deeper knowledge about their work via PBL, they also learn real-world skills that will be invaluable to them for the rest of their lives. Thanks to real world challenges such as the United Nations’ SDG’s, project based learning is currently enjoying a revival. In this style of learning, students must address a problem that’s impacting their local or global community. The PBL process teaches students how to organize and present their thinking in a limited amount of time. Students have to collaborate with other classmates to find solutions and then present their findings to a group. All the skills involved in the work are critical for today’s world. C. M. Educator Marjo Rantanen in Finland describes an EU program in which students improved their “entrepreneurial skills” and learned to “evaluate peer work and team work results.” Prerna Kumar in India explains her students worked longer and harder and described their experience as “joyful, authentic, powerful and resourceful.” Koen Timmers, who currently has students across 6 continents researching and brainstorming 4 climate change challenges, notes: “I believe in changing people’s mindsets via education.”

STATEMENT regarding release of Bureau of Land Management sage-grouse plans

DENVER—Today the Bureau of Land Management released the Final Environmental Impact Statements for Interior Secretary Zinke’s proposed changes to landmark sage-grouse conservation plans. In response, the Center for Western Priorities released the following statement from Policy Director Jesse Prentice-Dunn:

“In announcing these changes, Secretary Zinke is breaking a compromise deal made just three years ago by Westerners of all stripes, who set aside their differences to conserve key sage-grouse habitat and provide certainty for communities and industry around the region.

“Now, the Interior Department is punching oil rig-sized loopholes through the sage-grouse plans and preparing to gut the Endangered Species Act at the same time. It paints a grim future for the imperiled bird. Whether it’s caribou in Alaska, mule deer in Wyoming, or sage-grouse in Colorado, under Secretary Zinke, wildlife in the way of oil and gas development doesn’t stand a chance.”
