Farr West—Like many of our neighbors, we are getting ready for the big 4th of July celebration. The 5K run/ walk will start the day at 7 a.m., along with breakfast. The parade will start promptly at 9:30 with line up at 8:45 a.m. in the church parking lot at 1800 North 1800 West. The parade will start at the church and go up Harrisville Road to 1350 West, turn south into the Mountain View subdivision, and west onto 1500 North until it reaches the Mountain View Park.. No parking will be allowed along 1500 North during the parade, so please help us in this effort. There will be no activities in the park after the parade as there has been in years past.
Breakfast will begin promptly at 7 a.m. and will go until 8:30 a.m. at the Mountain View Park. Tickets purchased before the event are $5 per person or $25 for a family of six. The Scouts will be going around selling tickets.
Come join us for our famous Papageorge Souvlaki dinner prepared by the Papageorge family! Dinner goes from 5 to 8 p.m., or until we run out of food. Cost is $5 per plate. Dinner includes: one stick of souvlaki, salad, pita bread, dessert and a drink. Extra sides and drinks can be ordered at an additional price. Food is limited and no one will be served after 8 p.m.
NEW THIS YEAR! A limited number of booths will be available for evening ONLY. (There will be no daytime booths at the park this year.) We would like to have a focus of kid-friendly booths (face painting, glow sticks, games, cotton candy, and snow cones).
AWARDS PRESENTATION—The Grand Marshals and overall winners from the Golf Tournament, Tennis Tournament, Baby Contest, 5K Walk/Run and float contest will be recognized at 7 p.m. by the flag pole.
SKYDIVERS- The skydivers will be in the air with colorful parachutes at around 9 p.m. They are under the direction of Blake Meibos. At that time, we will need everyone to clear out of the east end of the park (by the ball diamond) to ensure the jumpers a safe landing.
FIREWORKS--Our excellent fireworks are set to start at 10 p.m. They will be synchronized to music under the direction of DJ Cindy Sue and Lantis Fireworks Productions.
FARR WEST CITY NOTICE OF 2015 MUNICIPAL ELECTION AND CANDIDATES
Farr West City will hold General Elections on November 3, 2015. Candidates are Ken McCollum, David C. Jay, Ken Phippen, Ted Black, and Tom Burkland.
A message from the City leaders: “Farr West City is a rural community grown from an agricultural heritage where a hard day’s work was required. There was an appreciation for the land, the open space and the opportunity of enjoying them through physical labor or recreation. Today, Farr West continues to value its land and open spaces and realizes that growth will continue. There is a strong desire to manage that growth responsibly, to continue providing for the needs of its long-time residents as well as its recently arrived and future residents. To accomplish this, the community desires to preserve its rural character, maintain accessible open space, encourage appropriate recreational, residential, commercial and industrial development and guide that development to enhance the character and feel of Farr West City and its heritage.
With increasing traffic along 2700 North, easy access to I-15, and the resulting growth in Farr West and surrounding communities, a new opportunity for the creation of a unique corridor is emerging. 2700 North/2000 West is a logical area to develop a regional, commercial development, and accommodate more diverse housing types. Providing for regional commercial use and new mixed land uses will enhance the Farr West community by offering a wider range of goods, services, and housing opportunities.”
