Farr West May News

There are several seats open on the City Council and the mayor position will also. In order to qualify as a candidate, interested individuals must file in person between June 1st and June 7 at the City office, which will be open in the afternoons during that week. If a Primary election will be held on August 15, those who are registered to vote will receive their ballots at the end of July. The General Election date is November 8. For more information, please contact the City Recorder at: 801-731. Even though the elections are a still few months away, it’s always a good idea to make sure that your registration information is up-to-date by logging onto www.voter.utah.gov. All you need is your Utah license/ID number and 5 minutes.  Remember: June 1-7th is the only time that you may officially file as a candidate for office!  

Wondering why it’s taking so long to develop the Smith Family Park?  Well, there has been a lot of junk found each time the builders try to dig, and when it rains the mud is impossible. They will prevail and the park will be awesome! THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE! (See the Pictures)

Lieutenant Chad Ferrin was very happy to have action taken on the 2017-2018 Sheriff’s contract, which was approved by the City Council. Farr West will be assigned four deputies; one per shift. Matt then asked how the Weber County Sherriff’s department is addressing visibility. Lieutenant Ferrin commented that their deputies have been instructed to drive through neighborhoods, and let the citizens see them. They have also been instructed to stop and talk with kids when they see them.

Updates in the City are:

• ·         From Mayor Dickemore:  Thank you to the Youth City Council and City staff for putting on the annual Easter Egg Hunt. It was a fun event for the kids with a great turn out!   The Recreation Center summer hours will start June 1. Please check our website for more information. Youth baseball games will start May 1 and go until June 8.    The Senior Center is busy with several activities such as: bingo, Wii bowling, stained glass and new classes including chair yoga, cooking and calligraphy. Come quilt with the seniors at no charge or contact Jean for a consultation if you would like them to do it for you. The seniors are also seeking volunteers to help with a float for the Freedom Festival parade. Please contact Jean if you have ideas or are interested in helping at 801-782-3497.  
• ·         From Councilman Burkland:  With recent articles in the paper regarding recycling in Weber County, please know that your blue recycling cans will continue to be emptied on the same schedule we are currently on for the foreseeable future.
• ·         From Councilman Gwynn:   We are currently in the open-burn period that runs from March 30th through May 30th.  Please visit http://weberfiredistrict.com/burn-permits-and-agricultural-burning/ to complete the application From Councilman Ferrin:  Its mosquito season. Please make sure that anything around your yard that catches water is emptied (ie old tires, kid pools, buckets, barrels, etc.) Mosquitoes love to lay their eggs in places like this. We are looking forward to another great Freedom Festival! Our “Movie in the Park” will be Friday June 30th.  July 4th, we have the 5k, breakfast and our parade in the morning with our dinner, booths and fireworks in the evening. Please make plans to join us. We are also looking for volunteers to help with some of these events.
• ·         From Councilman Phippen: A kick-off meeting of the Farr West Active Transportation Committee was held on April 11th. We got started on an adventure to create a plan for Farr West City and its non-motorized (active) transportation connections. This is a partnership between citizens, city officials, and public works, so we do this right. Come join us! All are welcome. Next meeting will be Wednesday, May 10th at 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm at City Hall. The Utah Division of Water Resources can neither confirm nor deny that hundreds of Utahans have been consumed by the Graboids from Tremors after multiple underground monsters broke through their landscapes due to shallow, overwatered root systems.

“It is OK this time of year to let your lawn’s roots reach a little deeper. This will make your landscape more resilient in the long-term, and your grass will be greener for it,” said Faye Rutishauser, Utah Division of Water Resources Water Conservation Coordinator. “Plus, shallow root systems put little protection between you and the Graboids,” Rutishauser said.

As a result, the division is asking most Utahans to wait a little longer before running their sprinkler systems, and to spot water dry areas. #H2Oath #SlowTheFlow
