Amala Jane Hodgson is the musical vocal Sterling Scholar for Fremont. She says her motivation to try out for Sterling Scholar came from her mom. “She [my mom] was the foreign language Sterling Scholar when she was in high school, and she encouraged me to try for it,” Amala said. Naturally, her favorite class in school is choir. “I feel so at home when I'm in the choir room. It's the place that I can forget everything that is going on in my crazy life and just let go.” Her biggest challenge she’s overcome has been moving out to Hooper from West Bountiful. She said, “You wouldn't think that there would be a culture shock between West Bountiful and Hooper, but there definitely was. But I came to love Hooper and the people in it.” Amala enjoys hanging out with her friends and watching Disney movies. She plans on attending Snow College after high school.

Allison Hadley’s motivation to become the business and marketing Sterling Scholar for Fremont came from her friend Carley Herrick who was the business and marketing scholar last year. Allison said, “I am always looking for scholarship opportunities and being recognized in something that I love seemed like thing to do.” Her favorite class has been her internship with the Weber County Sherriff’s Department. “It is super fun and it's something that I want to go into as well as marketing,” she said. Her biggest challenge was writing up her first business plan. About it she said, “It was hard to come up with ideas on how to fix a business and to make it make sense. It was totally worth it in the end because that plan took me to DECA nationals.” Allison enjoys playing golf and tennis in her spare time. She plans on attending Southern Utah University and hopes to major in forensic chemistry and minor in marketing, with the hopes of eventually joining the F.B.I.

Kaitlyn Mae Moeglein is the dance Sterling Scholar for Fremont. She decided to try out for it because it is one of the requirements in order to letter in dance. She said, “I had been striving to letter since my sophomore year and this was my last step to reaching that goal.” Her favorite class has been Pack TV, which is the school news station. “It is the most amazing and crazy fun classes I've ever taken,” she said. “I love making videos and editing the broadcast and running the behind the scenes stuff. It’s the little nerd in me.” Kaitlyn’s biggest challenge has been learning how to participate in all her different activities equally. “I'm very involved in the theatre program at Fremont, and I have had to figure out how to work around rehearsals for dance practice and vice versa,” she said. “It keeps me busy and I love every minute of it. It can just get super stressful sometimes.” Kaitlyn also enjoys doing hair and nails. After high school, she plans on graduating from cosmetology school (she’s more than halfway done) as well as taking small business classes online, with the hopes of one day running her own salon.

Jace Shawn Iverson has always had a passion for math, so naturally he decided to become a Sterling Scholar in that subject for Fremont. He said, “Ever since elementary school and the krypto Challenges in the Math Science Olympiads I participated in, I loved doing math.” Obviously, his favorite class is math. “Numbers are intriguing to me, and I want to learn more and more every day. I love working with them and solving equations.” Jace’s biggest challenge has been learning to overcome his personal doubt and fear. “Previous times in my life, I would have opportunities to do things beneficial to my future, yet in my timid and shy nature I would hold back.  From my experiences I have learned that doing hard things may not be easy, but will be worth it in the end because hindsight is 20/20...At the end of the day your happiness is dependent upon the things you do or don't do,” he said. In his spare time, Jace enjoys spending time with his family, being an SBO, playing on Fremont’s soccer team, reading, playing the piano and playing golf and tennis. After high school, Jace plans on serving an LDS mission as well as attending college, majoring in either graphic design or business. He also hopes to someday start a family of his own in the future.

Ryan Kohli decided to become the science Sterling Scholar for Fremont because he wanted to not only represent Fremont, but also their health science department. “I love to work hard at things I am passionate about and health science definitely one of my passions,” he said. His favorite class is advanced health science which is a concurrent enrollment class for Weber State University. He said, “This class is an in depth anatomy and physiology class and it lets me expound my knowledge of what I have learned so far in medicine. I have great teachers and classmates which makes it even better.” Ryan’s biggest challenge has been learning how to balance his schedule. He said, “Between multiple concurrent enrollment classes, clubs, club officer duties, sports and family life, finding time for each has been a challenge.” Ryan enjoys playing tennis, cooking, playing the piano and spending time with his friends and family. After high school, he plans on serving an LDS mission and attending Southern Utah University, with the hopes of eventually attending medical school and becoming a surgeon. He also hopes to one day get married in an LDS temple and start a family.
