September 19, 2018 - Dallas, TX - Fit For A King have released the official music video for "Oblivion" today. The video tells a powerful story of pain, abuse and forgiveness. "Oblivion, on its own, is a very personal songs to me, but with this video, it's brought to a different level. The video shows how powerful forgiveness can be, and even when we don't think others deserve it, God does. This video definitely isn't for the faint of heart. But we believe it can show the power of forgiveness through the pain." Fans can view the video here.

Fit For A King was built with bootstrap ethics and do-it-yourself vigor. On the strength of self-released material, the group joined Solid State for a string of successful albums that connected with the downtrodden and dispossessed. Creation/Destruction (2013) debuted at Number 6 on the Hard Rock chart. Slave to Nothing (2014) cracked the Top 50 of Billboard's Top Current Albums. Deathgrip (2016) climbed to Number 5 among Hard Rock Albums. Now, with the band's latest release, Dark Skies, Fit For A King is looking to, once again, dominate the hard rock/metal-core scene through a collection of diverse anthems powered by the undeniable weight of truth-telling emotional vulnerability.

Fit For A King is Ryan Kirby (vocals), Bobby Lynge (guitar), Jared Easterling (drums), and Ryan "Tuck" O'Leary (bass/vocals).

SLCC Officially Opens the Westpointe Workforce Training & Education Center

Utah lawmakers, along with industry, business and education leaders, received their first glimpse of Salt Lake Community College’s new 121,000-square-foot Westpointe Workforce Training & Education Center during a grand opening celebration held on Wednesday.

“I need this as a father,” said Utah House Speaker Greg Hughes, gesturing to the Westpointe building behind him. “I need to have a state where I know my children will have good jobs and will be able to raise families. It’s things like today, moments like today, that are going to make sure we have those opportunities.”

Strategically located in Salt Lake City’s industrial northwest quadrant near Salt Lake City International Airport, Westpointe will be integral to the Wasatch Front’s long-term economic vitality. The unique facility is designed to support the community by providing education and training in key industries that are critical to the region’s economic success, including welding, machining, diesel systems technology, injection molding, composites manufacturing, commercial driving and other high-demand fields. The center houses eight classrooms, 34 lab spaces and a three-acre lot for commercial truck driving, along with more than 100 welding bays, a large diesel maintenance facility and an injection molding lab.

Utah Governor’s Office Education Advisor, Tami Pyfer, said she was not prepared when she took the job more than four years ago for the “enormity” of the gap in supply of a skilled workforce. “I’m so pleased with what we’re seeing happening in this state and an increased emphasis on technical education,” Pyfer said about the opening of Westpointe. “Let me tell you, technical education is for everyone.”

Westpointe also allows SLCC to fulfill its mission as Salt Lake County’s primary post-secondary provider of workforce education and will serve a significant portion of SLCC’s 28,000 students enrolled in career and technical education (CTE) courses each year. The college offers 106 certificate programs in CTE, along with 32 degree programs and 29 non-credit certificate programs in CTE.

“At Westpointe, students will receive hands-on education and experience in a number of important trades,” said SLCC President Dr. Deneece G. Huftalin. “It will not only be a boon to students but also to our region by allowing us to maintain our economic prosperity through the development of a top-notch workforce.”

Besides serving as a one-of-a-kind, one-stop educational center, Westpointe offers space for collaboration with industry partners, allowing students the opportunity to interface with Utah’s leading companies in the industrial trades. Many of these companies have partnered with SLCC and have generously supported the ongoing operations for the center.

Utah Sen. Gene Davis echoed his colleagues’ comments about the need for strategically located training centers like Westpointe and for infrastructure to support a growing economy. “Now with this building and the commitment of our community college,” Davis added, “it’s going to be vocation, vocation, vocation, which is the most important thing we can do for Utah.”

Keeping with the college’s green initiative, Westpointe draws power from a 504-kilowatt solar array that covers most of the building’s roof with 1,440 solar panels, each capable of producing 350 watts of power.

Salt Lake Community College is an accredited, student-focused, comprehensive community college meeting the diverse needs of the Salt Lake community. Home to more than 60,000 students each year, the college is Utah’s leading provider of workforce development programs and the largest supplier of transfer students to Utah’s four-year institutions. SLCC is also a top 10 college nationally for total associate degrees awarded and the leading provider of applied technology courses in the Salt Lake area.

The HealthInsight Quality Award Program was launched in September 2004 to promote transparency in health care. As defined by the Institute of Medicine, a transparent health care system is “accountable to the public, works openly, makes results known, and builds trust through disclosure.” By using publicly available quality data to identify high-performing providers and publicizing the results, HealthInsight aims to help providers improve health care and help patients become more active and informed participants in their own care.

Nursing home quality information is available by visiting medicare.gov and selecting Compare Nursing Homes in Your Area, or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).

Not Your Parent’s Fireplace

October–National Fireplace Month

Contemporary, see-through fireplaces that warm multiple rooms. Prefabricated gas fireplaces that mount directly to the wall.  Electric fireplaces that look realistic and can really put out the heat. No, these are not the fireplaces you knew when growing up in your parent’s home. Today’s fireplaces are designed for visual excitement, two-sided exposure, and installation in locations previously unconsidered.

“The conventional fireplace has all but been reinvented in recent years,” says Jack Goldman, president and CEO of the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association (HPBA). “Today’s fireplaces cater to the specific needs and wants of homeowners,” he says, reminding all that October is National Fireplace Month.

Goldman says that a decade ago, generally only the extremely wealthy would have considered having more than one fireplace in the house. “There are so many new products on the market today that can fit any budget and style.”

While your parents may have had a wood-burning fireplace, the chances are that it wasn’t outfitted with an insert. “Fireplace inserts with glass doors have become the standard, retaining the heat generated by the fire when in use, and limiting draft when not,” says Goldman. “Woodstove design has also been updated in recent years allowing for a wide array of designs ranging from traditional to ultra-contemporary.”

Goldman says that gas and electric fireplaces are now installed for aesthetics and mood as well as heating purposes. “Architects have embraced the long, sleek horizontal fireplace surrounds and are incorporating them into their contemporary interior designs.” Equally exciting, he says are two-sided fireplaces that are increasingly being used in home designs. “When you consider the visual impact and benefits of a two-sided fireplace, the extra expense associated with it seems relatively low.”

Goldman says that second and third fireplaces are being installed in existing homes–sometimes for the calming effect they evoke. Specifically, he refers to gas and electric fireplaces that can be mounted directly to the wall, which in many cases do not require venting. “Because of this, fireplaces are making appearances in kitchens, baths and other private rooms of the house.”

Goldman says that hearth-related innovations are not limited to home interiors. Outdoor fireplace kits using traditional masonry or pre-engineered masonry products range in design from simple to majestic. The gas-fueled fire pit has also been given a new stage with its integration into the design of patio furniture and other outdoor architectural features.

Many new forms of media, such as the simulated gemstones, have been developed for use in gas applications both in and outside the house. Other products include large river-worn stones and sophisticated metal sculptures.

To experience the true impact of these and other fireplace products, Goldman suggests visiting the showroom of your local hearth shop. The HPBA website also features a Hearth Gallery of images on its Consumer Information tab.
