Early January 2014, the newly elected officials were sworn into office: Z. Lee Dickemore, Mayor; Matt Gwynn and Boyd Ferrin - City Council. John Cardon was re-appointed as Treasurer and Lindsay Afuvi as Recorder. The Planning Commission voted to re-appoint Bonnie Beal and Bill Malone.
The Planning Commission has been working on the curb, gutter, and sidewalk ordinance. A site-plan approval was granted to Northern Utah Leasing. A discussion was held regarding vacating the easement at the Ben Lomond View Subdivision. WISCO has been given until June 1, 2014, to complete the items contained in their site plan. A public hearing was scheduled for Conditional Use Permit/Kennel License. Phase 2 of Edgewood Estates was recommended for approval. A “conditional” recommendation was voted on.
Business licenses were issued to Farr West Urgent Care to be housed in the Farr West Medical/Dental Building on 2000 West with the hours of operation set as 9:00 am to 9:00 pm seven days per week; Citywide Home Loans; and Northern Utah Leasing.
Approval was given for three new home occupation businesses: K&C; Shear Hair Salon; and Rick Reber Construction. TLG Acoustics was also issued a license.
Meetings are ongoing between Farr West City and Pleasant View regarding the 2700 North Project.
The R.A.M.P. (Residential Access Modification Program) Grant for the new Smith Family Park has been submitted to Weber County. The Farr West City News article states that RAMP stands for Residential Access Modification Program. The correct acronym is Recreation, Arts, Museum and Parks.
The drains coalition received a final review. The sewer board approved their budget and Farr West is reported to be one of the few cities whose budget has decreased.
A Metro Police Department is being discussed between Mayor Dickemore and Sheriff Terry Thompson. The City would like the best for their money and 24/7 coverage.
Treasurer John Cardon reported that the recycling deficit is approximately $500. However, landfill use fees have been reduced because of recycling, leaving a profit of $24,000 in overall refuse collection. He further reported that the City is in good financial shape.
Farr West is looking into establishing an emergency plan. They will be looking for C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) people to compile their list.
TOADS is now owned by IHC who has intentions of building a new hospital in that location.
Farr West continues to experience increased growth and construction. New business licenses are being issued at a rapid rate. Many new people are coming into the area. New ideas are in the balance. It is exciting to look forward to the new.
