Drinking Water and Secondary (Irrigation) Water Issues are mostly different and are reported separately here.

Secondary Water and Government

There is still substantial controversy with the issues surrounding proposed secondary water improvements in South Willard.  For example, some want a better irrigation delivery system for more consistent water delivery while others are concerned about cost and government control of the new proposed pressurized system as “Pine View” is a quasi-governmental organization.  Another quasi-governmental organization, the Water Conservancy District, will also exercise more control. Some are also concerned about paying for the new service taxed through the county, but not being able to use it.  And some are happy with the existing service and prices.

On April 11th a neighborhood meeting for one neighborhood was held on 8000 South in South Willard.  The neighborhood is just north of the LDS church Stake Center, and West of Highway 89.  Dale Barnett and Richard Day (President of South Willard Water, but not acting on behalf of the Corporation) led a discussion in favor of the newly proposed pressurized water system.  There were about 45 people in attendance.  With the exception of one, John Arbon, all of the residents who commented (7 or 8) were in favor of the proposed new system.  Arbon questioned the cost – especially paying twice for the same function.  While the leaders of the discussion listened respectfully, some in the audience argued with Arbon.  The leaders said not to “throw away your pumps”, indicating that even though the project is moving fast, it won’t be functional this summer.

Drinking Water

There is a South Willard Water Company meeting scheduled for April 30th at 7 pm at the Willard City Hall for all users of the culinary water (drinking water) in which new by-laws will be proposed.  Each user is considered a share holder and has a vote.  The Sentinel News has reported the events of that meeting on the Sentinel’s website: www.sentinelnews.net.  Visit there for updates on this and other important issues.

Editor’s Note:  The building identified as the South Willard Water Company Office in the photo published in the March 2013 issue of the Sentinel is simply the address listed previously for South Willard water billing.  There is no actual office for South Willard Water Company.
