Attention all readers—With a partnership between Promontory School of Expeditionary Learning and with the help of a grant from the Deseret Industries, Perry City is proud to announce the establishment of a Bring One/Take One FREE Community library! Over the course of the summer, books have been gathered and donated for the singular purpose of making them available to the populous. Fiction books of every genre, ranging from beginning readers and picture books, to chapter books and novels, along with award winners, self-helps, and cookbooks, have been shelved and are now available for exchange, at the Perry City Offices! This is how it will work: bring in your best books, the ones you don’t intend to read again, and trade them for whatever you’d like from the collection! Then when you’re done with those books, bring them and exchange them back for new ones. It’s that simple! This library will be completely ‘on your honor’, being maintained entirely by volunteers. The content will continually evolve as books are exchanged, so there will always be something new!
Mayor Cronin has generously funded the new shelving; and, though the collection is starting small, more shelving will be placed and the collection will expand very rapidly. Mayor Cronin said, “It has been my privilege to act as the officiator for this project. I have a passion for reading and literacy, especially in children, and I am excited to be able to make so many quality works available to all the citizens of our community. It’s just one more thing to make Perry the Perfect Place to Call Home!”
The West Nile Virus activity in Box Elder County increased as mosquito samples tested positive. “Mosquito samples testing positive for the virus are the first signs of virus activity,” indicated Randy Sessions, District Manager. “We are keeping a close eye and monitoring these sites as they may become areas of concern for us. We ask that all residents take these findings seriously and take proactive measures to protect themselves from mosquito bites.” No human cases of the virus have been reported in Utah thus far; however, all states surrounding Utah have reported human cases. In response to the recent findings, the District has increased ground fogging and aerial spraying around agricultural areas where positive mosquitoes have been found to decrease the numbers of adult-infected mosquitoes and protect public health.
Last year there were two human cases and four horse cases in Utah. Box Elder County saw its last human cases in 2012 with one fatality. One horse case was documented in Box Elder County in 2014.
