Each year the Willard City is required to prepare a Consumer Confidence Report highlighting the test results and the quality of the drinking water supplied to its residents. The report is available by checking the city’s website, or you may request a copy at the Willard City Office, 80 W 50 S, during regular hours 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. M-F.
Burn Permits - NO BURN PERMITS WILL BE ISSUED UNLESS THE CLEARING INDEX IS ABOVE 500 for Airshed 4. Links to check the index are available at www.willardcity.com. The Division of Air Quality regulates this, not the County Fire Marshal. If the Burn Index is not above 500 on the day you want to burn, do not call for a burn permit. The "Residential Burn Windows" are March 30- May 30 and September 15- October 30. State requirements limit burning for only natural vegetation, ie: tree trimmings, leaves, etc., can be burned. This means no construction debris, household garbage, tires, etc. can be burned. Other methods of disposal will need to be used for these items. If the date is between the Residential Burn windows and the index is above 500 for Airshed 4, call 435-734-3345. Burn Permits for Saturday will be issued on Friday; but, you will have to check the Clearing Index before you start burning on Saturday and there is to be no burning on Sunday.
Agricultural Burn Permits - Agriculture burning falls into a little different category and permits can be issued year round, ONLY if the Clearing Index is above 500 for Airshed 4. In order to qualify for an agriculture burn permit, you must be burning natural vegetation, ie: fruit tree pruning, ditch banks and stubble fields, you must be farming as a livelihood, and your property must be in the greenbelt for taxes. If you meet the criteria for Agricultural Burn Permits and the Clearing Index is above 500 for Airshed 4, call 435-734-3345. Burn Permits for Saturday will be issued on Friday and there is to be no burning on Sunday.
Debris Basin Area - Many residents and those passing through have seen the construction going on in the debris basin. The area will provide a great recreation area including a walking trail and fishing pond and has been funded by a grant. The area is still under construction. For the safety of the construction workers, the protection of work being done and completed, and resident’s safety there are no unauthorized motor vehicles (trucks, cars, 4-wheelers, motorcycles, etc.) allowed. When the project is complete, there will be a designated parking area. There is also no camping or mining allowed in the area. Please contact Box Elder County Dispatch at 435-734-3800 to report vandalism or suspicious activity.
4th of July volunteers needed! We are still in need of volunteers to help plan, prepare, and help during the 4th of July annual celebration. This has been a long standing celebration for the community and residents past and present. Council member Profaizer has some new ideas and is calling for volunteers and ideas to make this year’s event even better. Contact the City Office at 435-734-9881 or by email at willardcity@comcast.net to volunteer for the committee.
Water Conservation - Willard City and South Willard has become alive with beautiful flowers, trees filled with new leaves, and vibrant green lawns and fields. With the frequent spring showers over the past few weeks, there hasn’t been a need to use water for our yards. As spring becomes summer, we try to fill in the gap between rain showers with watering cycles. Water is a life-giving resource, but here in our area it is not an unlimited resource. In fact, during the recent Utah State Legislative Session there was much talk about how water is going to most likely be a significant factor to the growth, both residentially and economically, of Utah’s future. Therefore, the wise and conservative use of the water in our area is a high priority if we want to maintain a clean and sufficient water supply for our children in the future. Included below are 10 suggestions to consider in order to conserve water. Also there is a suggested lawn watering guide for northern Utah. Please make it a priority to implement water conservation techniques to safeguard our critical water resources.
1. Water in the early morning. You’ll need less water, since cooler morning temperatures mean losing less water to evaporation.
2. Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.
3. Fix your leaks. Fixing leaky faucets can mean big water savings.
4. Cut your showers short. Shower heads can use as much as 5 gallons of water per minute.
5. Choose efficient fixtures.
6. Use less electricity. Power plants use thousands of gallons of water to cool. Do your part to conserve power, and you’re indirectly saving water, too!
7. Don’t run the dishwasher or washing machine until they’re full. Those half-loads add up to gallons and gallons of water wasted.
8. Hand-washing a lot of dishes? Fill up your sink halfway with water, instead of letting it run the whole time that you’re scrubbing.
9. Shrink your lawn. Where possible opt for a xeriscaped landscape that incorporates water wise ground cover, succulents, and other plants that thrive in drought conditions.
10. Keep an eye on your bill to spot leaks. If your water bill spikes suddenly, there’s a good chance that a leak is the culprit. Call in a plumber to check your lines to save water and cash!
