Beeline for November 28 - December 2

Thursday, December 1, 2016 - 9:30am

To All Junior Students and Parents of Juniors,   Beginning Monday, December 5, and spaced out over the next several weeks, we will provide a four-day ACT prep class during Bee Time for junior students.  Forty students each week will receive a referral slip in 2nd hour to Plus Time with Chanon Peterson.  Students, when you receive this referral slip go directly to the library.  If you are referred to another class and want to reschedule the prep class, talk to Mrs. Peterson.  The actual ACT test date for all Junior students will be on February 28.  Parents, please encourage your students to participate.  Students, don’t miss this opportunity.

This program has proven to improve ACT test scores if used correctly.

The administration would like to let you know that an option that was lost when we upgraded Pinnacle to begin the 2016 school year, has now been restored. Parents and students once again have the option to setup email notifications in Passport.   The parent, or the student, can schedule the following reports to arrive in their inbox via email on dates and times of their choosing: Attendance Summary Grade Detail Assignments   In addition, they can choose to receive near “real-time” attendance email notifications (usually within 5 minutes) when a student is marked absent, either excused or unexcused.   These notifications are initiated by clicking the “Email Notifications” link in Passport and setting up the desired reports/dates/time.

Here are some times for after school or before school math tutoring.  There are two afternoons and 1 morning.  We will be adding other day as the sports seasons start winding down since other math department members are coaching or running the clocks for some of the sports.   Tuesdays Mrs. Brandley  room: M-8  3-4 pm Thursdays Mrs. Bleisner  room: M-6  3-4 pm Fridays Mr. Seamons  room: M-5  7-7:50 am

Students of the month

Devin Gibbons, son of Kyle and Jolene Gibbons was nominated by Kenneth Bunce for November Student of the Month in CTE.

As teacher we have lots of great kids that pass through our doors day to day. It is some time hard to pick one that stands out.

Devin Gibbons is one student that I have had the opportunity to get to know. Devin is always trying new stuff and he is always willing to help.  He is on our engine building team and has taken a roll of team captain on one of the teams.

Devin is a very hard worker, in and outside of school. Has worked and helped students on the news computer systems and also enjoys working on his old tractor.

As a student he gets his work done, as a person he is helpful to those around him. Devin is a great student and I am glad to nominate him as the student of the month for CTE.

Sheldon Bradshaw is the son of Stacey Rose and Bob Bradshaw.  Sheldon was nominated for November Student of the Month by Laurie McCarty in PE/Health

I am nominating Sheldon Bradshaw for PE/Health November Student of the Month.  Sheldon is in 1st hour Fitness for Life and by far is the hardest working student all day.  He goes above and beyond the daily requirements in order to meet his own fitness goals.  On the days we do physical workouts he never leaves the Fitness Center without being “red-faced” and physically exhausted.  Sheldon is a great example of someone who takes an active role in caring about fitness and doing his best to improve.  I wish every student was as passionate about fitness for life as Sheldon is.  Thank you Sheldon for your hard work and making 1st hour more pleasant.

James Hugie son of Carl and Amy Hugie was nominated by Michelle Mund his Social Studies teacher for November Student of the Month.

I would like to nominate James Hugie as student of the month for the Social Science department.  James is a very interesting student. James is very inquisitive and he really has a desire to learn about the world around him.  Oftentimes James’ excitement for life would leave one questioning his desire to learn, but he is anxious for knowledge and he enjoys learning and being taught.  James is very intelligent and he provides great insight in issues discussed in social science classes.  James is very directed, and goal oriented, and he brings a great deal of enthusiasm to the teaching atmosphere.  I have really enjoyed having James in class.  He is a student who keeps a teacher on their toes, but also can be a teacher’s greatest alliance.

Sidney Jordan is the daughter of Alvin and Faith Jordan

Sidney Jordan was nominated for November Student of the Month by her counselor Victoria Dance.

I have enjoyed working with Sidney for the last two years.  She has a fun personality and always makes me smile.  She is a very talented artist.  She has shown me several drawings and I am amazed at her attention to detail and her creative mind.  She is also very thoughtful.  At the beginning of the year, Sidney dropped by my office during lunch to bring me an apple and to say hi.  It was just what I needed to start off the school year right.  I have loved getting to know Sidney.  I admire her in that she is not afraid to say what is on her mind and appreciate her honesty.  She is a great student at Box Elder High School and I can’t help but to smile when I get to meet with her.

DAMON ROBINETTE was nominated for November Student of the Month for PE/Health by Coach Mike Ripplinger.  Damon is son of Gaylen Robinette and Jennifer Robinette.

I picked Damon because he has done a great job in class. He has consistently stayed on task each day. Weight lifting is a class that they are able to lift at their pace.  I am constantly monitoring the class to make sure that they are on task.  Damon is great about staying on task and keeping his whole group of three lifting and staying motivated and on task.  He is great at keeping each member of his group on task and excited about each of their progress with the improvement on lifting more and increasing their max’s continually throughout the trimester. He and each member of his group has increased their max’s throughout the course of this trimester.  What a joy to have him in class.  He wants to improve his strength to the point of reaching the 1000 lbs. club.  He currently has a total of 920 lbs.  He has improved from the beginning of the trimester with a max total of 795 lbs.  This is a great example of how hard he has continued to work throughout this trimester.  Great young man and what a great accomplishment.

Jaden Noorda  is the daughter of  Chad and Christine Noorda.

Jaden Noorda is an outstanding student at Box Elder High School.  She is doing an internship at an elementary school and is an amazing example of what we want our students to represent.  She is going to do great things after high school

Jordan R. Carr is the son of Randy and Valerie Carr.

Jordan was nominated for November Student of the Month by Kasey Cullimore his Science Teacher.

While establishing a seating chart I quickly find myself placing Jordan in the center of the room.  This is because his knowledge and willingness to help other students make him a key player in my success as a teacher.  I know that students sitting by Jordan will have higher test scores because he does a good job in assisting them while I help others not near him.  He has a very enjoyable personality and seems to make others better when they are around him, this may be his greatest trait.  Fortunately, Jordan is not timid and will always participate in class, even when inappropriately he makes sure that he and others are back on task quickly.  Jordan does a superb job of grasping information and I often base how well I presented a topic, upon his facial expression and body language.  I wished I had one of him in every class.  I am proud to nominate him even more proud to know him.

Delia Lucatero  nominated for Math November Student of the Month by Jeff Rawlins.  Delia is the daughter of Nellie Bazan and Delia Lucatero.

During the past trimester I was able to teach Delia Lucatero in Honors Math 3.  Delia is a wonderful student to teach.  She is attentive in class, takes notes and works hard.  This has allowed her to succeed in math even though she may struggle at times with the different concepts.  Math does not come easy to Delia but she works hard to learn as much as she can.  What many don’t understand is math that if you continue to work hard at much like any physical skill eventually you will begin to understand more conceptually.  Delia has this quality about her and because of this desire to learn she is seeing success in the classroom.  This will also allow her to succeed in current classes, future classes and life’s desires. Delia is a great student and person and that is why she is nominated for student of the month for the Math Department

Brock Hardy

Brock Hardy was nominated November Student of the Month by Donny Constantineau in Social Science.  Brock is the son of Chris and Jenny Hardy.

I would like to nominate Brock Hardy from my 2nd Hour US History class. Brock always has his assignments finished on time and is prepared each day for to learn. On several occasions I have been impressed with Brock’s level of questioning, I can tell he is processing information at a higher level when he starts asking questions that many of his peers don’t understand. I know he reads the material given as homework, this reading has periodically caused him to ask questions at a level far deeper than I expect. He is always willing to help others and is a respectful student, to his peers and teachers. I appreciate this in Brock and am excited to nominate him as student of the month for the Social Studies Department.
