For November's First Friday Art Stroll, Ars Visualis (f/k/a Whitespace)  and officeevolution are pleased to present an exhibition of new drawings by KATIE STRADER, entitled

IDENTITY FLUX

OPENING RECEPTION:
Friday, Nov. 3 /  6 - 9 p.m.

According to Webster's Dictionary identity is a” fact of being”.

"I used to equate that with titles; woman, mother, artist etc...  I look at my past and realize who I thought I was, was really a construct. The conglomeration of my upbringing, what I’d been taught to believe,  who I associated with, and who I thought others wanted me to be. The title of the identity I chose was something to hide behind.  A generalized idea of me that was safe to show the world, concealing my true passions.  I wanted it to be fixed, easy to understand.  But it was false, and I felt false.

This series is an acknowledgment to the complexity of self, as well as an attempt to embrace authenticity in “being”.  Because “being” is in motion, it is fluid.  Each layer of rice paper is a part of me and only when combined do I begin to see the truth of my identity."

is located at 221 Historic 25th St. in downtown Ogden.
The exhibition will open with a reception for the artist on
Friday, Nov. 3 from 6-9 p.m.,
coinciding with Ogden City Arts' First Friday Art Stroll.
The reception is free and open to the public.
The exhibition may also be viewed from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Curation is word commonly associated with art, but applies broadly to what we as individuals,  families, communities and societies include or exclude, display or hide, value or ignore.

The shared theme of the two series represented in this show is our power to create via our discernment, consciously or otherwise.
