AFRICAN-AMERICAN EDUCATION LEADERS SPEAK OUT AGAINST NAACP ACTIONS

Statement by CER Directors Hardy, Hense

The following statement was issued today by CER directors David Hardy, founder and Chair of Boys' Latin Philadelphia Charter School and Donald Hense, founder and chairman of Washington D.C.'s Friendship Public Charter Schools, in response to the NAACP Task Force on Education Quality July 2017 Hearing Report.

The NAACP’s campaign against charter schools is detrimental and disrespectful to all parents who struggle to ensure a quality education for their children.

Rather than embrace, and work to expand, the opportunities that charter schools represent to America’s disadvantaged, and to families of color across the nation, the NAACP has chosen to stand as an obstacle, and work to stifle, a movement that, for thousands of children, is the greatest – and only – hope for achieving a quality education.

David Hardy, founder and CEO of Boys' Latin of Philadelphia Charter School

The association’s recently released report is intentionally skewed to further a union-driven, anti-charter school agenda, and its “model legislation” effort is an outrageous political scheme to further support the union’s agenda by undermining the voice and will of parents who are fighting for options for their children’s education and for the right and freedom to choose.

Donald Hense, founder and chairman of Wash., D.C.'s Friendship Public Charter Schools

The NAACP has a long history of fighting for justice and for individual rights that further opportunities, hopes and human dignity.  These efforts are the antithesis of that long fight, putting the association sadly, and uncharacteristically, on the wrong side of history.

Sprint Win in Logan Claimed by Ty Magner on

First Stage of Tour of Utah

Total of 126 Riders from 26 Countries Toe the Line to Start

Stage 1 presented by America First Credit Union

LOGAN, UTAH (July 31, 2017) – Holowesko | Citadel Racing Team p/b Hincapie Sportswear's Tyler Magner (USA) sprinted to victory in a heated finish in downtown Logan to take the stage win and overall lead at the 2017 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah. Magner covered the 132-mile course in four hours and 56 minutes.

Magner opened his sprint early and held a tire-width margin for the victory on Stage 1 presented by America First Credit Union. Christopher Lawless (Great Britain) of Axeon Hagens Berman Cycling Team and Travis McCabe (USA) of UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team finished second and third, respectively, in a feverish bunch sprint.

“Our goal as Holowesko l Citadel was to get in the breakaway and put as much pressure on, basically, all the other teams so we didn't have to be at the front and pull,” explained Magner about his team's strategy for the longest stage of the seven-day stage race. “We, as a team, were able to sit back and watch all the other teams at the front, pulling, working and we save all our bullets for the finishing circuits. Basically, John Murphy just gave me an incredible lead-out in the final 500 meters, coming out of the corner, super-fast sprint, and I was super stoked to hold these guys off.”

This year's Tour of Utah, July 31 – August 6, features 605 miles of racing and extends outside Utah (Bear Lake region of Idaho) for the third time in its 13-year history. The course offers a total of 36,525 feet of vertical gain for the week, solidifying the event as “America’s Toughest Stage Race.”

The Tour of Utah is a notoriously hard race with altitude, the arid climate and the climbing. To be able to sprint at this race, you have to be able to climb and just be able to suffer. We were really going for the stage win today,” said McCabe. “It ended up being pretty chaotic in the end, with that fast left-hand turn and it was a drag race all the way to the finish. Hats off to Ty and Christopher for first and second in the sprint.”

Magner claimed the first Larry H. Miller Group of Companies Overall Leader jersey of the 2017 Tour of Utah and the Utah Sports Commission Sprint jersey. Jacob Rathe (USA) of Jelly Belly Cycling p/b Maxxis in the breakaway took the points for the two Utah Office of Tourism King of the Mountain climbs and will wear the KOM jersey on Tuesday.

Stage 1 presented by America First Credit Union began in Logan under sunny skies with 126 riders on 16 professional teams, representing 26 countries. A breakaway of 10 riders escaped on the slopes of the first Utah Office of Tourism KOM climb up Logan Canyon. The escapees pushed their gap to a maximum of seven minutes and 45 seconds as they circled Bear Lake, known as the “Caribbean of the Rockies” for its turquoise-colored water. Under pressure of the chase and hot conditions, the break crumbled on the climb back up Logan Canyon before being reeled back with five miles to go. Enthusiastic crowds greeted the peloton in full flight for two downtown circuits.

One of the final two riders of the breakaway to be reeled back in, Miguel Angel Benito Diez (Spain) of the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA was awarded the Larry H. Miller Dealerships Most Aggressive Rider jersey.  Stephen Clancy (Ireland) of Team Novo Nordisk was voted the America First Credit Union Fan Favorite for Stage 1, in the category of Best Ambassador (Statesman).

In the General Classification, Magner has a four-second lead over Lawless after Stage 1. Joshua Berry (USA) of Jelly Belly Cycling p/b Maxxis took second in the two Utah Sports Commission Sprints in the stage and sits in third place overall, also at four seconds from the race leader.

“We're using the day to commemorate (teammate) Chad Young, who suddenly passed away at the Tour of the Gila. It was a very special, emotional day for the team. I think we showed it on the road, we really rode well,” said Lawless, who claimed the WCF Insurance Best Young Rider jersey. “It was a shame that I couldn't finish it off for the team really. It was the best team performance that I've ever been a part of.”

Stage 2 presented by America First Credit Union will debut a new start in picturesque Brigham City, nestled against the northernmost section of the Wasatch Front. The 94-mile climbing affair on Tuesday, Aug. 1 begins with two neutral laps in downtown Brigham City. It only takes 11 miles into the stage before the racers encounter the first of three Utah Office of Tourism KOMs, which total 6,900 feet of elevation gain for the day. After circling the Wellsville Mountains in a counter-clockwise direction, the route returns through Brigham City for a Utah Sports Commission Sprint line on Historic Main Street. The route will turn south and follow State Highway 89 to reach the North Ogden Divide. After passing on the east side of Pineview Reservoir, the route will launch the climbers for the first mountaintop finish of the week at Snowbasin Resort. The final climb is a double-pitched incline to the resort covering six miles with a six percent average gradient, and has not been used in the race before.

The Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah continues to be free for all spectators, making professional cycling one of the most unique professional sports in the world today. Fans can follow the race live each day with mobile applications from Tour Tracker powered by Adobe®, as well as live coverage each day on FOX Sports Networks (FS2 nationally).

=============================================

The recent special election in Georgia was a real eye-opener for all conservatives. Knowing that a defeat would be seen as a negative reflection of the Trump presidency, the Democrats called in help from all over the country. While this was a Republican district, there was a massive effort to display “resistance” to Trump and his policies.

Fortunately, Ossoff was defeated. But, it is a real eye-opener for conservatives like use; we cannot rest on our laurels until the 2020 election.

This special election illustrated just how desperate Democrats are to claw back seats in Congress. They spent a staggering $30 million to try to buy back just that one House seat!

Republicans may have the majority in Congress right now, but not by an overwhelming margin, and the Democrats will do anything they can to turn the tides.

The liberals lost this round, but believe me, they aren’t giving up, and there will be more opportunities for them to gain ground in the future.

That’s why wisdom requires that we act now to give President Trump and Congress conservative policies that will maintain the momentum that people like yourself have helped us institute. The clock is ticking, and this moment of opportunity won’t last forever.

Gratefully,

Ed Feulner
President

"To whom it may concern,

We've begun a new venture. I'm hesitant to give it a title because I don't want to limit what it could become but, for now, I'm going to call it a collective - an avenue for music and art and writing and performance. The first order of business will be to pair up with Hopeless Records to co-release an acoustic EP we recorded in May called 'Burst & Decay'. In the coming months and years, we'll be rolling out releases, artists and events. The seeds are being planted. This is just the beginning but for now, thank you. We love you. We'll see you soon."
