It’s Valentine’s week but many of our local elderly are lonely hearts this holiday. Just like the widower in Google’s Loretta Super Bowl commercial, many seniors have lost spouses. Others have lost friends, or their kids live far away, and they have no one to bring them Valentine’s cheer.
In fact, a new study released by the UC San Diego School of Medicine reveals 85% of seniors surveyed say they’re lonely.
That’s why the local ‘Senior Cheer Patrol’ from SYNERGY HomeCare, a non-medical in-home care company, will play Cupid and surprise area seniors this week with a Be-My-Valentine visit.

DENVER—Today the Trump administration released a proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2021. The document proposes a dramatic cut of 16 percent for the Interior Department, which is tasked with managing national parks and public lands.
In response, the Center for Western Priorities released the following statement from Executive Director Jennifer Rokala:
“It’s no secret that the Trump administration is hellbent on opening up our public lands for drilling and mining. This proposed budget would further cripple public land managers and open the door for extractive industries.
“Slashing funding for our public lands directly contradicts the will of Westerners. In poll after poll, Western voters have consistently supported increasing funding for conservation and requiring corporations to pay a fair share for drilling and mining on public lands.
“Thankfully, bipartisan majorities in Congress have rejected previous attempts to gut the Interior Department budget and are poised to do so again. This attempt to kneecap the agency in charge of our parks and public lands is clearly dead on arrival.”
