Campaign seeks to register Utahns before March caucuses, engage new voters in political process

Registration available at credit union branches statewide or utahscreditunions.org

SALT LAKE CITY (March 3, 2014) – With political caucuses beginning later this month, Utah’s credit unions have launched the “Ready. Set. Vote.” initiative to increase voter registration and political engagement.

Approximately 800,000 Utahns are eligible to vote, yet have not registered to make their voices heard in the upcoming political process. “Ready. Set. Vote.” seeks to change that.

“Making a difference is more than just voting in November. It starts now,” Utah Credit Union Association President and CEO Scott Simpson said. “If you aren’t registered to vote, you aren’t in the dialogue. Participation leads to good government.”

Utahns can now register to vote at credit unions statewide or by visiting utahscreditunions.org.

Utah’s credit union members are active in the political process. Simpson said more than half of all credit union members in Utah are registered to vote.

“That means we have work to do,” Simpson said.

A kickoff event for “Ready. Set. Vote.” was held recently at the Utah State Capitol, where Simpson was surrounded by nearly 50 newly registered voters who work at one of Utah’s many credit unions.

“We’re walking the walk by registering our employees and members to vote and encourage the public to join us,” Simpson said. “We’re making registering to vote easier than ever.”
