ASA Insurance Announces Salt Lake City Driver Safety Study

ASA Insurance provides competitive car insurance rates in the Salt Lake City area.

After years of being rated as some of the worst drivers in the country, a recent study has revealed that Utah drivers are not so bad after all!

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, UNITED STATES, August 10, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- After years of being rated as some of the worst drivers in the country, a recent study has revealed that Utah drivers are not so bad after all! Salt Lake City auto insurance provider ASA Insurance have called attention to the results of the Largest Distracted Driving Behavior Study, the largest distracted driving study conducted to date, performed by Zendrive Research.

Zendrive is a company focused on improving road safety through data analysis. They have designed and utilized a smart-phone-based system to measure and analyze driver behavior. In the winter of 2016, Zendrive policy experts and data scientists dug into their 10-billion mile data set to find out what they could discover about phone use behind the wheel. The recently released results were astonishing!

The Zendrive researchers commenced their study with some commonplace assumptions; that phone use while driving is both distracting and dangerous, that only a few distracted seconds while talking on a cellphone can have dire consequences, that distracted driving is fueling the increase in U.S driving deaths, that everyone has phones, and that phone usage is difficult for crash investigators to prove. The study was conducted specifically to uncover both the frequency and duration of phone usage while driving.

What we didn't know beforehand was how often people used their phone while behind the wheel. What has been revealed by the Distracted Driving Behavior Study is that Americans use the phone almost every time they get behind the wheel! "That is absolutely shocking," said a spokesperson for ASA Insurance, "we as providers of car insurance in Salt Lake City are especially distressed! It is refreshing however to see that Utah drivers ranked particularly well in the results."

Utah drivers ranked 8th in the least distracted drivers in the country, spending an average of 4.25% of their day looking at their phone while driving. The worst ranked state was Vermont, whose residents spend an average of 7.42% of their day using their phone while driving, in spite of a state ban on the practice! The least distracted drivers int eh nation are those from Oregon, who spend on average 3.7% of their day on the phone while driving. Of the ten states having the least amount of driver distraction, six have laws limiting phone use while driving, Vermont being an exception to the rule.

Asked about their thoughts on the study, our contact at ASA Insurance had this to say: "Though it is encouraging to see that Utah drivers are some of the least distracted in the country, it is troubling to see that the practice of cell phone use while driving is so common. We look forward to working with companies like Zendrive in order to eliminate the behaviors and factors which cause road accidents and deaths."

A representative from Zendrive perhaps best summed it up when he said; "Our technology allows us to bring new insights and data to problems we have been previously unable to measure, such as phone usage while driving. We believe that if you can measure it, you can manage it!"

Utah Patients Coalition Approved to Begin Collecting Signatures for 2018 Medical Cannabis Initiative

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Utah Patients Coalition has received approval from Lt. Governor Spencer Cox to begin gathering signatures to qualify for the November 2018 ballot. After holding 10 public hearings across the state and meeting with various state departments and stakeholders, Utah Patients Coalition will now proceed to collect the more than 113,000 required signatures to place doctor-approved access to medical cannabis on the ballot for Utah voters to approve.

In response to feedback from state officials, Utah Patients Coalition made two technical changes to the initiative language: (1) striking a short tax deduction provision that would have required federal tax law to be interpreted and implemented by state tax authorities, an issue that advocates plan to revisit with the State Tax Commission and the legislature after the initiative becomes law; and (2) establishing a limit on the amount of medical cannabis that a patient or caregiver can transport, bringing it in line with a common 30-day restriction on pharmacy drugs.

“We plan to gather the first signatures by next week and be finished prior to the 2018 legislative session in January,” said DJ Schanz, campaign co-director for Utah Patients Coalition. “Our volunteers—many of them patients or caregivers themselves—have been ready and eagerly waiting; it feels good to know we will have scheduled events in the coming weeks for those who have waited years for this.”

Utah Patients Coalition offers a special thanks to the respectful and timely schedule adhered to by Lt. Governor Cox and his staff in the Elections Division, as well as the Governor’s Office of Management and Budget (GOMB), the State Tax Commission, and the Governor’s General Counsel Jacey Skinner.

“Everyone involved worked efficiently and provided important input, helping us make sure that Utahns will vote on the best proposal possible,” said Schanz.

Utah Patients Coalition will now begin printing petition packets and organizing signature-gathering efforts. The campaign plans to announce volunteer training and petition events in the coming weeks.

Information for those wishing to donate or help gather signatures will be posted at UtahPatients.org.

This Fall, back to school clothing will be provided to girls around the country by the Believe in Yourself Project.

Each back to school season, there is so much pressure on young girls to stay in style, with very little consideration for the reality that many girls from low-income families cannot afford new clothes. Their resulting embarrassment can inhibit their ability to attend social and extracurricular actives, causing them to miss out on important milestones and further lowering their self confidence.

Believe in Yourself (www.believeinyourself.org) is a  foundation launched in January 2017 that provides brand-new, never-worn dresses to low-income girls around the country, while at the same time works to promote positive body image, to reduce cyber bullying, and to inspire girls to believe in themselves and their dreams.

Clothing donations are tied to the girls’ progress in achieving goals. Each girl who wants to receive a dress is entered into a system where they are then tracked to see their progress, whether towards improving their academics or pursuing an extracurricular interest such as music, dance, sports, etc. and Believe in Yourself provides the girls dresses for any upcoming events they have during the school year.

Believe in Yourself is part of a broader initiative. The charity brings in Mentors and speakers to motivate the girls to believe in themselves. These mentors also provide tips if the girls are experiencing a negative body image or bullying of any kind, and they counsel the girls to help them achieve their dreams and goals.
