How to Choose a Preschool That's Right for Your Family

Did you know that most preschools and nursery schools are registering students in January and February for the new academic year in the fall? Preschools vary widely in their educational philosophy and day-to-day routines, and the school that's a perfect fit for your neighbor or friend might not be just right for you. But how can you navigate through the preschool search process to find a place that will be best for you and your child? KidsOutAndAbout offers a list of specific factors to ponder and ask about as you attend open houses and school visits. Don't Feel Like Getting Out and About?

Let's face it: whether you're shivering through a frigid winter, it's pouring outside, or you have one sick child who's keeping everyone else in the house, sometimes you can feel a little cooped-up at home. Sure, we love to help you get out and about, but we've got plenty of ideas for fun and learning when you're stuck around the house, too.

For activity ideas, check out our article What to Do When the Weather is Bad and You're Stuck Inside with the Kids.

If it's a couch-and-screen day, you can still learn a little something and broaden your perspectives with a documentary. Find something on our Housebound: A Baker's Dozen of Documentary Shows on Netflix for suggestions on shows your family can watch without the guilt. As time's gone by, we've accumulated way more than 13 picks, and we've got a couple of Amazon Prime and DVD suggestions as well. One highly-recommended pick: Most Valuable Players, about a high school theater competition.
