A quick message from Mayor Brent Taylor, “I would like to congratulate Blake Cevering and Sara Fawson for their election to the North Ogden City Council, and to thank them and all of those who ran and for the positive campaigns everyone led.  We are fortunate to live in a great country where we get to freely and fairly elect our own leaders.  Public service is a great honor and all of us who you have elected thank you for your confidence and trust.  As we close out this year and focus on friends and family during the holiday season, I want to assure you that your North Ogden City team continues to work very hard.  During November we completed multiple important infrastructure projects for our city, including finishing the new skate park, breaking ground for the amphitheater expansion, installing a new pressure reducing valve on 3100 North for our water system, and nearly finishing the new animal shelter at the new Public Works building.  Our Parks employees have been busy putting up holiday decorations and prepping our parks for winter, and we have received shipments of two new snow plows with wings.  These new trucks will enable us to improve the speed and efficiency of our snow plow service this winter.  We have also picked up leaves from thousands of houses in the city!  It has been a busy year in North Ogden and next year is shaping up to be even busier.

Happy holidays and Merry Christmas!  Brent Taylor, Mayor of North Ogden”

On Tuesday November 14th the new Skate Park at North Ogden Park was opened with much fanfare!  The 10,000 square foot park includes the components from the old park by City Hall, as well as some new features.  The features are now set into the concrete, eliminating the old transition ramps.  There is a 6,000 square foot future expansion area south of the new park.  Weber County paid for the entire cost of the new park (approximately $192,000) as part of the city donating the land from the old park for additional parking at the library.  Great Job, just remember we need to help keep it clean.

Amphitheater Expansion Groundbreaking Mayor Taylor and the City Council broke ground for the Barker Park Amphitheater expansion on Wednesday November 15th. Construction begins immediately, and is expected to last for 6 months, finishing next spring. The first phase of construction will include a new and larger stage, a majestic amphitheater building built over the stage, and a concrete terraced seating area in front of the stage. The project is being built in phases in order to not use bonding and to deliver the project in a fiscally sound manner. Future phases will include finishing the interior of the building, installation of fixed seats, additional parking lots, and a plaza area for civic events. City leaders are working hard to obtain outside funding to support the project, and have acquired the largest RAMP grant in our city’s history toward the first phase of the project!

Employee of the Month Ryan Carter Ryan Carter was asked to step into the role of maintaining our Water Meter Reading Systems near the end of 2016. We are just over half way through the transition from drive-by reading to Fixed Base Meter Reading. Ryan took the systems over and has really put in a lot of work to get to know the systems. He uses four different programs currently to work through the process of reading and troubleshooting the water meter reading systems. Great job!

Our roadside cleanup was a huge success, three big garbage bags were collected full! The cold and setting sun didn’t stop us! We were able to divide into three groups and conquer Washington Boulevard starting at 2700 to Larsen Lane. We appreciated all who honked when they saw us on the side of the road with our orange vests!

Bicentennial Park is the city's narrowest park located at 2641 N. 400 E., just north of Lee's Marketplace. This beautiful park of 1.25 acres is home to the famous "North Ogden Stump," with fresh well water available year-round. The park also hosts North Ogden's Veteran's Memorial, listing many of the heroes from North Ogden. In addition to the water at the stump, there is a stream running through the park. If you follow the sidewalk to the west side of the park, it connects to the new Bicentennial Trail (2015) for the next 1/3 mile and continues on into Pleasant View, great for biking, walking and running. After the stump, Bicentennial Park is most famous for the beautiful lights in the trees during the month of December.
