dditional HealthInsight States Selected for National Project to Measure and Compare
Health Care Costs across U.S. Regions

Salt Lake City, Utah HealthInsight’s Nevada and New Mexico affiliates, along with three other organizations, have been selected by the Network for Regional Healthcare Improvement (NRHI) to join its groundbreaking project that measures and reports on the total cost of health care (Total Cost of Care or TCoC) in regions across the nation.

NRHI is a national organization of regional health improvement collaboratives working to transform the U.S. health care system. The project is part of NRHI’s Getting to Affordability initiative, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and seeks to answer such critical questions as: What does health care cost in my community? Why does health care cost more in some places than others? and What’s driving the differences in costs for the same services or procedures?

HealthInsight Nevada, HealthInsight New Mexico, the California Healthcare Performance Information System, the Greater Detroit Area Health Council and Integrated Healthcare Association will join nine other organizations that have previously received funding to address regional barriers to measuring and reporting Total Cost of Care.

In addition, as NRHI existing grantees, HealthInsight Oregon, HealthInsight Utah, the Washington Health Alliance, Massachusetts Health Quality Partners and Virginia Health Information have been awarded additional funding to continue their work, and each will share their strategies and lessons learned to inform and accelerate the work of other regions.

“We are excited to now be participating across our four-state region in working to measure total cost of care,” said Marc Bennett, HealthInsight president and CEO. “Through these efforts, we’ll be helping to increase understanding of health care cost drivers in different regions – a critical step to achieving more affordable health care.”

For more information about the project, see NRHI’s January 2017 report “From Claims to Clarity: Deriving Actionable Healthcare Cost Benchmarks from Aggregated Commercial Claims Data,” which provided the first-ever comparison of what patients are paying out of pocket and what commercial insurers are paying for health care in different regions of the country.

Fifteen finalists share their stories on how having educational opportunities changed their lives

The public now has the unique opportunity to see and hear American families, adults and children share personal stories about how “choices in education” changed their lives.

Hundreds of families from across the country shared their stories for the “Choices in Education” video contest over the past two months and now the public can vote on the 15 finalists. Their stories are sincere and thoughtful insights into how having the freedom to find the right educational fit for a student’s unique needs can change lives.

Dozens of national and state partners worked together to engage families in creating digital shorts to profile their unique educational path.

Videos from the 15 finalists can be seen at www.ChoicesInEd.org. The public can vote on their favorites through January 2.

The top two most popular videos will receive $5,000 each. Judges from national educational organizations will also select three $15,000 winners and three $5,000 winners. Winners will be announced during National School Choice Week, Jan. 22-26, 2018.

“These wonderful families and students have shared their passion and joy of experiencing the benefits of educational freedom," said Patricia Levesque, ExcelinEd CEO. "Because of the dozens of educational choice programs in states across the nation, millions of students have the opportunity find their right educational fit – whether that is a traditional public school, public charter school, magnet school, private school, blended and virtual learning or homeschool. These students and families are the real experts on education and I urge everyone to watch their stories to feel the life-changing benefits of choices in education.”

ExcelinEd has teamed up with the nation’s leading education groups on this initiative, including: Agudath Israel, American Federation for Children, Arizona School Choice Trust, Center for Education Reform, Children’s Education Alliance of Missouri, Children’s Scholarship Fund, Classical Conversations, EdChoice, EdChoice Kentucky, Florida Parent Network, Foundation for Blended and Online Learning, Institute for Quality Education, Missouri Charter Public School Association, National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, National School Choice Week, Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina, Public School Options.org, School Choice Ohio, School Choice for Oregon, Step Up for Students, Texans for Education Opportunity and many more.
