Anne Davis Senate Citation, pet food drive
Senate Citation awarded to Anne Davis with memorial pet food drive at State Capitol Feb. 11
A pet food drive will be held Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 12 p.m. on the steps of the State Capitol in honor of Anne Davis, founder and executive director of Animal Advocacy Alliance of Utah. Senator Jani Iwamoto will present a Senate Citation to celebrate Anne’s efforts to advocate for humane treatment of animals at 11 a.m. on the Senate Floor. Friends and supporters are invited to attend in the Senate Gallery and bring a bag of dog or cat food to continue her legacy.
Anne, who passed suddenly Aug. 30, 2014, was a long time Utah animal advocate. In 2008, the Animal Advocacy Alliance of Utah joined forces with the Humane Society of Utah to fight for the landmark felony-level animal cruelty bill known as “Henry’s Law.” In the same year, she also participated in the “Don’t Forget the Pets” campaign to collect pet food for the elderly, veterans and anyone in need of assistance providing for their pet during the difficult economic time.
Anne’s motto, “Our work isn’t over until the suffering stops,” continues to inspire other animal advocates. Eva-Maria Howard’s organization, For the Love of Paws, will be holding a memorial pet food drive to collect donated dog and cat food following Anne’s citation ceremony. They hope to continue Anne’s mission of providing pet food to those in need.
