HSU offers $1,500 reward for Orem duck shooting
Rewards offered by residents and Humane Society of Utah for killing of ducks at Orem rescue pond
The Humane Society of Utah is offering a $1,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for what appears to be the repeated shooting of ducks nesting in an Orem community pond. HSU hopes to assist the Division of Wildlife Resources in obtaining information required to identify and charge whoever is responsible for these criminal acts.
“This is intolerable behavior and the Humane Society of Utah does not condone acts of violence against animals,” said Gene Baierschmidt, executive director of the Humane Society of Utah.
The ducks at this community pond near Sleepy Ridge Golf Course in Orem have been cared for and rescued by residents, who were horrified to discover that the animals have been shot while nesting. Injuries from a supposed pellet gun have been found in each of the deceased animals.
Residents have offered a $500 reward. The Humane Society of Utah hopes its additional $1,500 reward will help officers and prosecutors obtain the information required to end the shootings.
