Championing international trade, governor calls for extension of Trade Promotion Authority
SALT LAKE CITY (June 9, 2015) – While Gov. Gary R. Herbert leads a trade mission to five European nations to expand Utah’s international economic ties, he is also calling on Congress to extend long-term Trade Promotion Authority.
In a letter signed by both Gov. Herbert and Gov. John Hickenlooper of Colorado, the governors respectfully ask Congress to reaffirm its constitutional role in the development and oversight of U.S. trade policy while strengthening its collaboration with the president. The governors call this the best way to ensure U.S. workers and businesses remain on equal footing with global competitors.

In 2014, Utah businesses exported $12.3 billion worth of goods and Gov. Herbert has set the goal to increase value-added exports to $1.4 billion by 2019.
