Just a reminder of NO SCHOOL this Friday, April 14th because of Easter Weekend.

Don't forget if you have a need to make a class request for your child next year, it is due by April 14th. I will not accept emailed requests because it is necessary to have a paper copy of every request. Here is the information again in case you need it

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Considerable thought and deliberation go into creating individual classes for next year and, as you can tell, it is a very important and complicated process, especially as we experience growth in our school community which may warrant additional staff. With the accountability measures implemented under federal and state laws, it is only fair, and certainly vital, for students and teachers, that each class be equal according to skill levels and challenges. Every effort will be made to create classes composed of personalities, learning styles, abilities, behaviors, girl/boy ratios, as well as special education or other needs that will contribute to the most positive and productive learning environment possible for all students and teachers.

Just as each child is unique, so is each teacher. An individual experience that one of your children may have had with a teacher can differ drastically from what another one of your children may have with the same teacher. Our society is made up of many different people with tremendous varieties in personality, behavior and temperament; learning to get along with all kinds of people, making new friends, and accepting challenges and changes is an important part of the personal growth of our students. Having a wide variety of teachers with different teaching styles and personalities is a benefit to our students to help prepare them with the skills they will need to relate to the many people they will interact with in this world. With few exceptions, every child can learn to appreciate and function with their teacher when we are all working together. We have an excellent faculty completely committed to giving our students the finest education possible.

If you feel that your child has unique circumstances or needs that must be considered as we create next year’s classes, you will need to submit those concerns in the form of a letter no later than April 14, 2017. I will not accept emailed requests because it is necessary to have a paper copy of every request. The information may be shared with the teacher involved as we are trying to improve and grow with our community needs. Requests received after this date may not be considered. If more information is needed, I may request a face-to-face meeting to clarify your concerns.

Your letter should contain the following:

-At the top of the page: your name, phone number, your child’s name, and incoming grade level

-Describe your child’s educational needs: teaching style, child’s personality, classroom environment, etc.

-Twins: Please note if you would like the twins together or separated.

-Requesting a specific teacher is discouraged, but if you feel it is necessary then please include your first and second choices of desired teachers.

-Please address each child’s concerns individually on a separate sheet of paper.

Educational reasons, by their nature, should be focused on the educational needs of your child. A review and consideration of your concerns will then be made as we put class lists together. Thank you for your understanding and support of this important process. We appreciate your trust in the faculty of Farr West Elementary and look forward to another successful school year.
