Governor appoints Eisenman, Beck to the Third District

Juvenile Court

SALT LAKE CITY (May 11, 2017) – Gov. Gary R. Herbert has appointed Susan Eisenman and Steven Beck to fill current vacancies on the Third District Juvenile Court.

“It is a privilege for me to appoint someone so capable as Susan Eisenman to the juvenile court bench,” Gov. Herbert said. “Susan’s knowledge of juvenile court programs and the law is exceptional. The youth and families of our state will be well served by Susan’s problem solving abilities and dedication to the law.”

Eisenman has served in various positions within the Office of the Utah Attorney General since July 2000, including assignments as the division director of the State Agency Council Division and assistant attorney general of the Children’s Justice  Division and Child Protection Division. Prior to her service in the attorney general’s office, Eisenman worked as a guardian ad litem in Salt Lake City, and as a staff attorney at Laherty and Associates. In addition to these roles, Eisenman is a regular conference presenter and community educator. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at University of California, Berkeley, and a Juris Doctor at the University of Virginia School of Law.

“I am deeply grateful to the governor for this opportunity,” Eisenman said. “If confirmed, I pledge to serve the families and children of Utah with humility, compassion and a profound respect for the laws established by the legislature and the Utah and United States Constitutions.”

Steven Beck currently provides legal representation to children within the juvenile court system with the Utah Juvenile Defender Attorneys. Prior to this service, Beck worked as a deputy district attorney for the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s office. Beck also previously worked as an intern for the Third District Juvenile Court, a hearing officer for the Salt Lake County Board of Equalization, and a legal assistant at the law offices of Elggren and Van Dyke. He received his Bachelor of Science in Political Science, Masters of Public Administration and Juris Doctor from the University of Utah.

“Steve Beck has admirably dedicated his career to the juvenile court system and the youth it serves, and I appoint him with full confidence that he will treat the children and families he encounters in this capacity with the understanding and respect they each deserve,” Gov. Herbert said.

“I am humbled and honored by the governor’s appointment to serve as a judge for the Third District Juvenile Court. I am excited for the opportunity to continue working with the children, families, and dedicated professionals in the juvenile justice system,” Beck said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney in juvenile court and look forward to the challenge of this new role.”

The governor’s nominations are subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
