Residents must have a permit from the Utah Department of Air Quality (DAQ) for any open burn. Permits are issued between March 30th and May 30th. In order to obtain a DAQ burn permit visit the website: http://www.airquality.utah.gov/Compliance/OpenBurning/index.htm.
All burning must be done in daylight hours. Dispatch must be called to check air quality prior to burning (801-629-8221) and a copy of the permit must be kept at the sight of the burn. For further information or questions contact the Plain City Fire Department at 801-731-1110. Rules apply for recreational/outdoor fires as well. Refer to website for specifics.

When putting out your garbage/recycling cans, the cans must be at least 4 feet apart. Please bring your garbage/recycle cans in from the street as soon as possible after it has been emptied.
May 8th is the 70th anniversary of victory in Europe towards the end of WWII. We would like to remember those who served from our community and are still living by placing a flag at their residence on May 8th from 8am to 8pm. She has a Facebook site, “Weber County's Greatest Generation,” where she is posting a story a day about WWII servicemen and women from Weber County.
This year, we have a municipal election for three Plain City council seats. Those interested in running for City council, will need to sign up at City Hall between June 1 and June 8, 2015. Requirements are: candidates must be a registered voter in Plain City and have lived within the City boundaries for at least 12 consecutive months. Terms are ending for LaFray Kelly, Joel Maw and Mark Lowther. Mark Lowther has indicated that he will not be seeking another term. It is unknown at this time if LaFray Kelly or Joel Maw will be running again. The City wants to thank those who have served in City positions (both elected and appointed). The county will also have one item on the ballot concerning transportation.
This year, due to changes in procedure, all registered voters will receive a ballot in the mail approximately one month prior to Election Day. An information card will be included with the ballot indicating that the ballot may be mailed back or taken to the secure ballot drop box, which will be provided at the Plain City Hall. The secure ballot drop box will be available for the 30 days prior to the election and up until 8 pm on Election Day. The mailed ballot must be postmarked no later than the day before the election to be counted. In addition, a limited polling location will be operated on Election Day at City Hall. This will be for those who did not receive a ballot or prefer to surrender their absentee ballot, or those who would feel more comfortable voting in the traditional way.
The John Carver Cabin that the Plain City Utah Daughters of the Pioneer have been restoring is almost completed. Steve and Pat Smith have been the dedicated directors of the project. The cabin is expected to have a reopening in July. Thank you to everyone who donated time and money to make this happen. One last bid for any donations that would help put a bowery over the cabin to help protect it from the elements would be much welcomed. The committee for the July 4th Celebration would like the elementary-age kids of Plain City to create a program cover and theme for this year’s celebration. Entries can be submitted to the City offices between Wednesday, April 1, 2015, and Friday May 2, 2015. Let them know why you love the 4th of July and what makes that day special for you and your family. Again, funds are being raised to help offset the costs of the 4th of July Celebrations in Plain City. If every household were to donate $1 per person, that would add up fast.
