WORKSHOP AND CALL FOR PERFORMERS

Keith Johnson/Dancers will host a free, two hour workshop on Sat, July 15 at Sugar Space Warehouse.

The workshop will be based on the 8-hour installation art project, Bodies Matter, performed by Keith Johnson/Dancers on World AIDs Day Dec 1, 2016. This workshop will be used to increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education on the subject.

Movers will create improvisational scores that will take direction from the architecture of the space, the subject matter and the energy of other bodies in the room. This is something used often by the company to create material for choreography.

These improvisational scores will be presented later that day at Mestizo Coffee House to engage, energize and reflect with the community.

BACKGROUND

On December 1, World AIDs Day, Keith Johnson and Dancers did an 8 hour long installation performance, to show support for people living with HIV and to commemorate those who have died from the disease. They invited the community, local artists, and shops to participate in this with them. They opened the installation to anyone at anytime for 8 hours and asked for donations which all went to St Mary's to help raise awareness about HIV prevention and care. It was an incredible day and filled with love with a great response from the community.

As part of the Salt Lake installation, we will be inviting people, in the weeks preceeding the performance, to submit a photograph, poem, artwork, memory, etc. in rememberance of a loved one, friend, mentor or a person affected by the AIDS epidemic. If desired, these items may be included in the gallery/ performance exhibition.

Despite repeated efforts to spread the word, fire managers are continuing to observe activities occurring which are prohibited by active fire restrictions. Land management agencies implement fire restrictions in the interest of public safety and natural resource protection. By engaging in prohibited activities, recreationists are putting these values at risk from wildfire.

These risky behaviors have proven to be costly, as they have ignited additional wildfires across the state in recent weeks. With continued hot and dry conditions, fire managers are urging residents and visitors to use sound judgement when outdoors. It is important to be prepared before heading out by knowing the restrictions in the area, inspecting vehicles, and being equipped with a shovel and adequate water in the event a fire starts.

Of significant mention are campfires, debris burning, target shooting, fireworks, and vehicle malfunctions. Some of these activities are either prohibited or restricted on public lands. Land managers are stressing the fact that exploding targets and fireworks, along with other incendiary devices and tracer ammunition are never permitted for use on public lands. Campfires and debris burns are often limited in the summer months due to the high risk of escape. Additionally, vehicle malfunctions become more prevalent during hot summer months, many of which can lead to a wildfire. Visit www.utahfireinfo.gov for more information on current fire restrictions, incident information, and prevention tips.

Intermountain Medical Center and Primary Children’s Named Two of America’s Most Beautiful Hospitals

Intermountain Medical Center was ranked the 13th most beautiful hospital campus in the nation.

We were inspired to create this list by recent data that found happy hospitals make happy patients.”

— David Alexander, President of Soliant Health

SALT LAKE CITY, UT, USA , July 10, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Intermountain Healthcare’s Intermountain Medical Center and Primary Children’s Hospital are ranked among the top 20 most beautiful hospitals in the United States, according to a new national poll.

Intermountain Medical Center was ranked the 13th most beautiful hospital campus in the nation, while Primary Children’s Hospital was ranked #19th as determined by over 100,000 votes in a national online poll conducted this year by Soliant Health, a healthcare staffing provider. The two are the only Utah hospitals to make the top 20.

A total of 50 hospitals were nominated for the poll, and the top 20 were selected based on votes from communities across the nation.

Six states — Florida, Illinois, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Utah — had two hospitals on the list.

Soliant describes the Utah winners like this:

INTERMOUNTAIN MEDICAL CENTER: “The flagship of Utah’s Intermountain hospital network makes its debut in our rankings this year. Tied for #1 in U.S. News and World Report’s 2015-2016 ‘Best Hospitals’ rankings, this building’s exterior features natural-looking waterfalls cascading down walls into square, modern ponds that reflect the beauty of nature, visible through floor-to-ceiling windows inside.”

PRIMARY CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL: “Utah seems to have a large number of attractive hospitals, with many facilities from the state gracing our list over the years. Celebrating its first year in our rankings, Primary Children’s Hospital is a 289-bed facility in Salt Lake City. Originally founded in 1882, its current form is still one of the oldest buildings in our rankings, whose current structure dates back to 1952.”

The idea, according to Soliant, is that healing is beautiful — and beauty is healing.

"We were inspired to create this list by recent data that found 'happy hospitals make happy patients,'" says David Alexander, president of Soliant Health. "As a provider of healthcare professionals for hospitals, we recognize that staff morale and attention to patients' needs are critical to patients' happiness, but the survey also showed that another factor in satisfaction was how the hospital actually looked."

Leaders of both hospitals are honored to have their hospital campuses recognized.

“We’re pleased to receive this recognition,” said Joe Mott, Intermountain Medical Center’s administrator. “I believe the physical beauty of our campus — a healing environment that’s infused with nature and lots of sunlight — brings peace and beauty that supports our culture of healing that is found in every part of our medical center.”

“We appreciate the recognition for our newly renovated hospital and our recently built Eccles Outpatient Services Building. Our beautifully designed buildings are carefully nurtured and maintained by all who work and volunteer here to help us to welcome our unique patients and their families,” said Katy Welkie, Primary Children’s CEO. “But their beauty is about more than architecture. Primary Children’s is filled with a spirit of healing and hope that our caregivers bring to the space, which demonstrates our unwavering focus on The Child First and Always.”

NOMINATE YOUR PHYSICIAN FOR THE

COUNTRY DOCTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD

IRVING, TEXAS – Do you know a great country doctor?  The kind of physician who still makes house calls and accepts the occasional apple pie or roast turkey for a fee?

If so, he or she may qualify as the Country Doctor of the Year.  Presented by Staff Care, Inc., a national healthcare staffing firm, the Country Doctor of the Year Award honors the spirit, skill and dedication of America’s rural medical practitioners.

Now in its 25th year, the Country Doctor of the Year Award has been presented to renowned rural physicians nationwide who have been profiled by USA Today, People, Parade, CNN, The Today Show and many other media outlets.

As part of the award, Staff Care will provide the Country Doctor of the Year with a temporary physician for two weeks at no charge, a service valued at $10,000.  According to Staff Care President Jeff Decker, rural doctors often cannot find physicians to cover their practices and so have difficulty taking vacations.

“We hope the award winner enjoys some well-deserved rest” notes Mr. Decker, “but our real intent is to honor an outstanding country doctor and to shine a light on the great work that rural physicians continue to do even as their numbers dwindle.”

Nominations for the Country Doctor of the Year Award will be accepted for physicians who practice in rural communities and who are engaged in such primary care areas as general practice, family practice, internal medicine, and pediatrics.   Anyone can nominate a physician, including friends, patients, co-workers or family members, and all stories or anecdotes about the physician are welcomed.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Country Doctor of the Year Award website, or you may call Staff Care for a nomination form at (800) 685-2272.   Completed nominations must be received no later than October 31, 2017.
