THE DANGEROUS SUMMER

HEAD INTO THE STUDIO

NEW FULL LENGTH TO BE RELEASED NEXT YEAR

 UPCOMING SHOWS CONFIRMED

JULY 10th, 2017 - ELLICOT CITY, MD - Newly reformed and reunited with Hopeless Records, The Dangerous Summer has returned. The band, now composed of vocalist and bassist AJ Perdomo, guitarist Matt Kennedy and drummer Ben Cato, will head into the studio soon with producer James Paul Wisner (Underoath, Dashboard Confessional, Paramore) to record their upcoming fourth full-length, which will be released next year. In their time away, Perdomo, Kennedy and Cato had plenty of time to figure out who and where they wanted to be, and they've all returned to the same place.

The band's forthcoming album, their first in four years, looks to build on an already accomplished discography. The Dangerous Summer's first three albums-2009's Reach For The Sun, 2011's War Paint and 2013's Golden Record-were more than just critically acclaimed: They were collections of visceral, textured alternative rock that shook audiences to their core with an unrivaled musical heft and lyrical honesty.

"We're taking elements of what people always loved about the band and trying to push the limits and push things forward," Perdomo explains of the upcoming album, "We're pulling out of the darkness, and it's really inspiring and uplifting."

As The Dangerous Summer approach the next stage of their career, they do so with an overwhelming optimism that's never been stronger.

The band has confirmed a headline show in Baltimore, MD in September and will also appear at Four Chord Music Festival in Pittsburgh, PA with The Starting Line, State Champs and more. Details for both shows can be found below. Tickets can be found at www.facebook.com/thedangersummer

In celebration of the return of the band, Hopeless Records has reissued the bands' classic catalog on limited edition vinyl. Check it out here: smarturl.it/TDSmerch

Suburban Salt Lake City Struck by Large Apartment Fire for Second Time in a Week

Friday Wood-Frame Apartment Fire Displaces 60 People Following Wednesday Wood-Frame Apartment Fire That Displaced Nearly 100 People

For Immediate Release: 7.10.2017

Silver Spring, MD – Friday evening, a wood-framed apartment burst into flames in Midvale, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City, just a couple days after a nearby wood-frame apartment complex caught fire following Fourth of July fireworks celebrations.  The two Midvale fires displaced 60 and nearly 100 residents, respectively. According to Assistant Chief Stephen Higgs, the wood-framing allowed Friday’s apartment fire to spread quickly.

The fires come on the heels of a number of spectacular wood-framed apartment fires nationally – most notably in Oakland, CA; Dorchester, MA; Lawrence, MA;  East Hollywood, CA; Lowell, MA; Waterbury, CT, Emeryville, CA; St. Petersburg, FL; Arlington, VA; College Park, MD; Overland Park, KS; Raleigh, NC; and Maplewood, NJ. There have been dozens over the last few years.

“Midvale, Utah, is reeling because combustible construction materials allowed these fires to spread rapidly,” said Kevin Lawlor, a spokesperson for Build with Strength, a coalition of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association comprised of fire service professionals, engineers, architects and industry experts. “The writing is on the wall, or more specifically, in the walls.  Wood-framing is a vulnerable building material, as opposed to resilient alternatives like concrete and steel-framing.”

Cities and towns like New York City, NY; Chicago, IL; Maitland, FL; Sandy Springs and Tucker, GA, have taken proactive steps to preemptively ban the use of combustible materials, such as wood, in this type of construction.

“Fortunately, Friday’s fire was put out quickly without any injuries to firefighters or residents,” continued Lawlor.  “But in the case of Wednesday’s fire, residents were forced to jump from their windows, and a number of pets perished due to the timing and the fact fire alarms were not triggered because the fire started outside. Regardless of whether buildings are occupied or still under construction, the risk associated with using wood remains.

High and Low Festival comes from the mind of Andy Serrao, producer of many successful Southern California festivals and owner of Chain Reaction. A reflection of both Serrao's personal listening tastes and the very nature of music, he says the festival's name has multiple meanings. "Sonically, music has highs and lows, and emotional highs and lows, and with the California topography, we have the mountains, the desert and the ocean," says Serrao. "The name High & Low fit for us, with the vision for where we wanted to go. Great music has got me through every aspect of my life. With every high and every low, came a soundtrack in my head that defined my life. This festival is a good representation of artists that do this for myself, and tons of other people."

High and Low concertgoers can expect a festival with a coherent, cohesive identity, crafted by someone who truly understands what makes a live performance great.

America to Trump and Zinke: Don’t touch national monuments

New analysis finds near-unanimous support of Bears Ears and other national monuments as public comment period closes, including a 9‑to‑1 margin among Utahns

DENVER—With just hours remaining in President Trump’s 60-day public comment period reviewing 21 years of national monument designations, a new analysis of more than 650,000 comments posted to regulations.gov finds overwhelming support for keeping and protecting America’s national monuments.

The Center for Western Priorities analyzed a random sample (n=1000) of the 654,197 comments posted as of Monday morning. 98 percent of those comments expressed support for keeping or expanding national monument designations.* Just one percent requested President Trump attempt to shrink or erase monument boundaries.

“America has spoken loud and clear: protect and enhance national monuments, don't eliminate them,” said Jennifer Rokala, executive director at the Center for Western Priorities. “It’s not too late for Interior Secretary Zinke to heed the word of an overwhelming majority of Americans by upholding Bears Ears National Monument and the dozens of other natural wonders under attack. Unfortunately, this administration, under Secretary Zinke’s leadership, has demonstrated its priority is carrying water for special interests and not working on behalf of all Americans.”

A full-text search reveals 55 percent (358,822) of comments posted specifically mention Bears Ears National Monument, with a similar near-unanimous ratio of support for keeping Bears Ears intact.

The Center for Western Priorities also identified approximately 4,800 comments from self-identified Utah residents. Of those Utahns, a random sample (n=823) reveals 88 percent support for keeping monument status for Bears Ears or Grand Staircase–Escalante national monuments.** These results are consistent with CWP’s previous analysis which found comments from Utah residents support national monuments by a nine‑to‑one margin.

Greg Zimmerman, deputy director at the Center for Western Priorities, said, “The Trump administration has telegraphed its intent to eliminate national monument acreage, including vast swaths of Bears Ears National Monument, since the first days of this review. If the public’s opinion means something to President Trump and Secretary Zinke, they will think twice before making the unprecedented and extremely unpopular decision to do away with a single acre.”

Additionally, monument supporters announced today that conservation, sportsmen’s, and other groups have submitted more than 2.5 million comments and signatures in support of national monuments from Hawaii to Maine. Each bundle of comments, when processed and posted to regulations.gov, will display as a single submission with attachments.

For more information, visit westernpriorities.org. To speak with an expert on public lands, contact Aaron Weiss at 720-279-0019 or aaron@westernpriorities.org.

* Methodology and notes: Regulations.gov currently shows more than 1.3 million submitted comments, of which 654,197 had been processed by Interior Department staff as of 7:00 am MDT Monday. CWP downloaded the full text of all available comments (code) and selected 1,000 at random, which were analyzed for support or opposition to monument designations. The analysis has a margin of error of ±3.1%.

** To find self-identified Utah residents, CWP searched the full text of all comments for variations on more than a dozen terms, including “Utah resident,” “San Juan County,” “Blanding,” “Monticello,” “Bluff,” and “Salt Lake City.” A random sample (n=1,000) of those 5,933 matching comments were then manually analyzed to confirm a statement of Utah residence, and those that did (n=823) were also analyzed for support or opposition to national monument designations. This portion of the analysis has a margin of error of ±2.8%, however, because regulations.gov does not require commenters to list their home state, there is no way to know or estimate the full number of Utah residents who submitted comments. The complete toolchain used to automate comment selection is available on request.
