First Family Announced for HGTV’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

Wadman Corporation to begin building home immediately for the Barobi family of Ogden

Ogden, UT (August 9, 2019) – HGTV’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has selected the first family that will be getting a new home in the greater Ogden area. The Barobi family was surprised with a door knock from Jesse Tyler Ferguson, the host for this edition of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition along with the show’s new designers Carrie Locklyn, Breegan Jane and Darren Keefe, with the announcement that they are the deserving family to get a new home.

The Barobi family is a refugee family from the Democratic Republic of Congo. They escaped to Uganda where, after a time, they were notified by the United Nations that they had been selected to come to the United States. While they knew nothing about the United States, they immediately embraced the environment in Utah. “What is Utah?”, said Ashraf the eldest brother as he found out where they would live, “What is Salt Lake City? Are we going to live in Salt?” he continued with humor in his voice and a light in his eyes. Their story is one of extreme tragedy, heartache and perseverance. Azida, one of Ashraf’s sisters said, “we still can’t believe that America picked us to live here...it’s everyone in Africa’s dream to live here...it’s like a gift from God.”

“We are excited to start building the Barobi family’s home,” said Dave Hogan, President of Wadman Corporation. “Our construction team has spent months working with our community, subcontractors, suppliers and the Extreme team on planning, organizing and turning dreams into a reality for a local family in need.”  The construction of the home will be accomplished in only one week.

While Wadman Corporation has taken the lead in planning, organizing and mobilizing the construction effort, this project relies on community support and hundreds of volunteers to build a home for the Barobi family in one week.  “Our partners at the Goal Foundation and Visit Ogden have been amazing in helping organize the community effort,” said Dave Hogan. The Barobi family’s new home will be built on a vacant lot that was donated by Ogden City. This home will help them to be able to continue to reach their dreams in America.

“What the Barobi family has endured in unthinkable.” said Dave Hogan, president of the Wadman Corporation, “We are completely honored to be able to help provide a home for this incredible family.  We want to thank, in advance, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, all of our business partners, subcontractors, community partners and individual volunteers for making an undertaking like this possible.”
