Thumbs Up North Ogden for Restoring Property Rights to Over 100 Homeowners

North Ogden - The City Council unanimously voted to ease controls that previously restricted over 100 homes from adding a garage or converting a carport into a garage.  Many homes in North Ogden built several decades ago either don’t have a garage or car port, or the car port only allows for one parking space.  The former ordinance prohibited building a garage within 10 feet of your property line and building a garage with a width of less than 24 feet.

Over the past several months City employees and the Planning Commission have put a great deal of work into researching the situation and coming up with solutions.  During the September 25th City Council Meeting the Planning Commission’s recommendations were presented by Craig Barker, Community Development Director.  The City Council fine-tuned their ideas and unanimously approved some liberating changes to the existing ordinance.

The modifications will now allow homeowners in the situation previously mentioned to add a garage to their homes that can be as narrow as 18 feet and come to within 6 feet of their property lines.  Councilmen and Citizens expressed satisfaction in returning property rights back to homeowners.
