Mayor Bruce Richins awarded Geniel Anderson with a National Service Recognition Award on April 1st at Majestic Elementary School “for demonstrating commitment, dedication, and patriotism by making an intensive commitment to service.” Congratulations!! April 1st is the Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service. Mayor Richins would like to “encourage residents to recognize the positive impact of national service in our city; to thank those who serve; and to find ways to give back to their communities,” according to a memo sent to the Council. It’s a great reminder that we all have a responsibility to help make our communities better for ourselves and for future generations.

The Council also approved the 2014 street maintenance projects. According to an e-mail sent by City Recorder, Jennie Knight, the projects included, “Schedule ‘A’ in the amount of $72,809.35 awarded to Intermountain Slurry Seal and Schedule ‘B’ in the amount of $36,238.56 awarded to Advanced Paving and Construction.”

Heritage Days are happening August 2nd. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Council Member Jennifer Morrell at jmorrell@cityofharrisville.com or Jennie Knight at jknight@cityofharrisville.com. The City would also like to remind residents to continue to conserve water by reducing their irrigation by 20% and not watering between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. Another reminder the City wants residents to remember is to lock up their cars, bikes, garage doors, etc. It only takes a few minutes to do in order to prevent becoming a victim of theft.

Harrisville and Marriott-Slaterville Parks and Recreation are sponsoring a Summer Tennis program June 2 – July 30 (divided into three cycles) for 5 year olds up to adults. Signups are at the Harrisville tennis courts. Registration starts for residents on April 29-30 from 5 P.M. to 8 P.
