The Utah 1033 Foundation is Accepting Applications for

2015 Leadership Award Scholarships

Foundation will award four scholarships in honor of Utah’s fallen law enforcement officers

Park City, Utah – October 15, 2014 – The Utah 1033 Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for its 2015 Leadership Awards scholarship program dedicated to supporting children and dependents of active Utah state law enforcement officers. The Foundation honors Utah’s fallen officers by providing immediate financial support to their families and presenting college scholarships to the children of active Utah law enforcement officers.

The scholarship fund will award four $2,500 grants to high-school students who excel in both academics and leadership experience in their communities.

“The scholarship program demonstrates our unwavering support not only for the families of Utah’s officers killed in the line of duty, but also for the dependents of those currently serving their communities,” said Tore Steen, co-founder of The Utah 1033 Foundation. “We believe that offering scholarships is another meaningful way to give back to Utah’s law enforcement personnel and their loved ones.”

Each scholarship awarded bears the name of one of the four officers killed in the line of duty since the foundation’s creation in 2011: Ogden City Police Officer Jared Francom, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Aaron Beesley, Draper City Police Sgt. Derek Johnson and Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Cory Wride.

Students applying for the scholarship must complete an application form, and attach a current school transcript, signed release form and a completed School and Community Service form. Applications must be postmarked by February 1, 2015.

Each application will be evaluated on the following criteria:

·         30% - academic standing, including overall GPA, class ranking and evaluation of the applicant’s curriculum.

·         30% - content and composition of the required essay.

·         40% - school and community service, and leadership experience as detailed in the School and Community Service form.

The Utah 1033 Foundation’s Scholarship Committee will announce scholarship winners on April 6, 2015.
