Utah students, communities to hold more than 200 events as part of nation’s largest-ever celebration of school choice

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Jan. 21-27 will officially be School Choice week in Utah, thanks to a proclamation from Gov. Herbert. Dozens of other governors and hundreds of city and county leaders nationwide have issued similar proclamations.

In Utah, 222 events and activities have been independently planned with the goal of raising awareness of the educational opportunities that parents have, or want to have, for their children. Across the country, more than 32,000 rallies, receptions, coffeehouse meetups, festivals, roundtable discussions, school fairs, and other events and activities will celebrate opportunity in education.

“We’re excited that Gov. Hebert has issued this proclamation,” said Andrew Campanella, president of National School Choice Week. “Utah families, like families everywhere, want the best education for their kids. We hope parents can use National School Choice Week to consider their options and find whatever educational setting is best for their kids’ individual needs and interests.”

Held every January, National School Choice Week is an independent, nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child. Through thousands of independently planned events across the country, National School Choice Week raises public awareness of all types of educational choices available to children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.
