Pleasant View-based insulation installer, Michael Bowdish of J&K Insulation, to participate in annual America’s Best Installer competition for $10,000 prize

DENVER – Oct. 14, 2019 – Michael Bowdish of J&K Insulation, based in Pleasant View, will compete in November in the 17th annual America’s Best Installer competition. The event will take place from Nov. 7-9 at the EXDO Event Center in Denver, where he will compete against 22 other insulation installers from across the country in a time and skills competition for a $10,000 grand prize.

Since its creation in 2003 by building products manufacturer Johns Manville and Insulate America, the competition has served as an annual reminder of the importance of a proper installation. The competition recognizes how the skills, hard work and dedication of local insulation installers can contribute to a more energy efficient home, resulting in lower heating and cooling bills for homeowners.

“Energy efficiency, especially as the weather turns colder, is an important consideration for many homeowners, and the annual Best Installer competition is a fun and interactive way to see it practically applied,” said Bob Wamboldt, president of Insulation Systems at Johns Manville. “Plus, it allows us to recognize and celebrate the country’s best installers while they show off their skills, learn from one another and continue to improve this profession.”

The three-day hands-on competition includes a simulated home installation, which requires competitors to install JM formaldehyde-free insulation batts into mock home structures. To further test the installers’ skills, the home structures are filled with obstacles like pipes, vaulted ceilings and electrical outlets. Installers’ performances are judged by experts on workmanship and install quality, speed, material use and reaction to the various barriers; the same criteria installers are judged on every day by homeowners and businesses.

In addition to the $10,000 grand prize winner, three additional installers will be recognized and compensated as competition finalists. The second-place winner will earn a $5,000 cash prize, the third-place winner a $3,500 cash prize and the fourth-place winner a $2,500 cash prize. Additional installers will also be awarded with cash prizes during the preliminary rounds of competition. America’s Best Insulation Installer and the additional finalists will be announced during an awards ceremony on Nov. 9.
