As the school year has started, there are safety concerns with the kids going to and from school. These have been addressed earlier when school stared, but unsafe acts are still being seen.

Please ensure children walking to school remain on the sidewalks and only cross in designated cross walks or at intersections.  Children waiting at bus stops must stay out of the streets until the bus arrives and they must obey the drivers.

Majestic Elementary: Please do not park on the north side of 2550 North to load or unload your children. 2550 N is a 40 mile per hour road, but it changes to 20 MPH when school is in session.  However, motorists still have a hard time seeing the small children darting out from between vehicles to cross the road.

Orion Jr. High: Drivers need to stop completely at the stop signs and look for children walking on the sidewalks and through the parking lot when picking up or dropping off children.  The junior high wants to remind students about FREE math tutoring Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 am in Miss Johnson’s room (105), bring your books.

Green Wood Charter School: Parents please DO NOT park, stop, or wait on Hwy 89 in the area of the school to pick up or drop off your students. The speed limit is 45 MPH and many southbound vehicles are still slowing from the 55 MPH speed limit prior to that area.

Fall Clean-Up is scheduled November 2-6. Once again Harrisville City will be offering the opportunity to clean-up yards and neighborhoods throughout the City. Two waste containers will be located at the main park—one for garbage and one for green waste. No hazardous waste or construction debris will be accepted.

For those who enjoy walking the parks and neighborhoods with their furry friends, we would ask you to please be considerate of others by using a doggie bag to clean up after your dog. Also remember that it is unlawful for any animal to run at large. Always keep pets on a leash and remember to carry extra bags for cleanup. Help do your part in keeping our community clean and safe.
