This morning's meeting of the Interim Revenue and Tax committee approved a motion to send a favorable recommendation on a bill (Income Tax Credit Modifications 2017FL-0292/007).
The bottom line effect of this bill would be to kill rooftop solar in Utah. It is a very sad day for the lungs of millions of Utah children, for the environment and it is the death of many clean Utah jobs of the future in the emerging Utah solar industry.
It is a victory for Rocky Mountain Power, for coal and for a dying 19th-century approach. RMP has again bullied its way, putting immediate profits and dividends ahead of the health and economic security of the people of Utah.
As the graph shows, the state of Utah has never been all that supportive for solar. This bill would seal the death on the industry in Utah.
