About the Humane Society of Utah

The Humane Society of Utah (HSU) is dedicated to the elimination of pain, fear and suffering in all animals. Since 1960, the HSU has been sheltering abandoned animals, fighting cruelty and neglect, and creating an environment of respect, responsibility, and compassion for all animals across the state. As an open-admissions shelter, the doors are always open for any animal we can legally accept. The HSU is a member of the No-Kill Utah Coalition and works hard to ensure that every healthy and treatable pet that enters the facility will be placed into a loving home. In 2015, 11,318 pets received positive outcomes, and we achieved no-kill statistics for both cats and dogs for the first time – a milestone in 55 years. The Humane Society of Utah is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organization that does not receive any tax dollars or government funding and is not a branch of any national organization. We are solely funded by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses and foundations in our community. Read more about the HSU online at utahhumane.org.

Intermountain Healthcare ranked #1 in the Gartner Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25

Intermountain Healthcare recognized as a leader across the healthcare value chain in improving human life at sustainable costs.

Intermountain has been leading the way and our supply chain organization has helped us find significant savings. It’s one of the main reasons Utah healthcare costs are among the lowest in the nation.

— Marc Harrison, MD, Intermountain Healthcare’s President and CEO

SALT LAKE CITY, UT, UNITED STATES, November 18, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Intermountain Healthcare topped Gartner’s 2016 Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25 for companies demonstrating leadership in improving human life at sustainable costs. After two years at number three and six years in the top 10, Intermountain’s move to the number one spot is the culmination of strategy, talent and capital coming together in a sustained effort to transform its supply chain, according to Gartner. The report from Gartner analysts added, “We believe the successes are just beginning for Intermountain.”

“With per person healthcare costs in the U.S. hitting an all-time high this year and with healthcare spending projected to grow over the coming decade at a faster rate than the national economy, managing healthcare costs is a national imperative,” says Marc Harrison, MD, Intermountain Healthcare’s President and CEO. “Intermountain has been leading the way for several years, and our supply chain organization has helped us find significant savings. It’s one of the main reasons Utah healthcare costs are among the lowest in the nation.”

Gartner reported that implementing patient-focused strategies helped Intermountain provide high-quality care at affordable costs. It also highlighted the fact that collaborative projects over the last 10 years produced validated savings to Intermountain of over $586 million, through a wide variety of process improvement projects and protocols.

“This recognition is a result of many years of hard work and reflects the collective effort of a great number of people,” says Richard Beach, Assistant Vice President of Supply Chain Materials Management at Intermountain. “While the building, tools and processes we employ are very important to our success, it is really each of our employee’s willingness to contribute, work together, and provide extraordinary service that makes this kind of achievement possible.”

The Gartner rankings are determined through quantitative measures such as patient care performance, financial strength, and supply chain excellence, and includes a voting process that includes peer organizations at VP-level and above and Gartner analysts. STATEMENT on Oil and Gas Lease Cancellations in Colorado’s Thompson Divide

DENVER—In response to today’s announcement that the Department of the Interior is canceling improperly-issued oil and gas leases in Colorado’s Thompson Divide region, the Center for Western Priorities released the following statement from Deputy Director Greg Zimmerman:

“Today’s announcement corrects a mistake that was made more than a decade ago. These are leases that never should have been issued in the first place. We’re now a step closer to permanently protecting one of Colorado’s natural treasures.

“Natural gas drilling is one use on America’s public lands. But places like the Thompson Divide provide an important reminder to us all that drill pads and pump jacks don’t belong on every acre.”
