Hatch Speaks on Patent Troll Priorities in Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing

Washington, D.C.— Senator Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, the longest serving Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee and Chairman of the Republican High-Tech Task Force, issued the following statement after laying out his priorities for patent troll legislation in a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.

 

 

“I am optimistic the Senate can pass meaningful legislation this year. As I noted in the hearing, effective legislation must include mandatory fee shifting and a mechanism to ensure recovery of those fees, even against judgment-proof shell companies. Only by doing so can we help ensure continued innovation, creating jobs and economic opportunity for millions of Americans.”

 

Senator Hatch has been leading the fight against patent trolls since 2005, when he and Senator Pat Leahy began work on the American Invents Act. On Monday Senator Hatch presented his priorities for fighting patent trolls in greater detail in an op-ed in WIRED
