COMMISSION TO ELIMINATE CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT FATALITIES TO MEET IN

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH ON MAY 19-20, 2015

 

Washington, D.C.  – The Commission to Eliminate Child Abuse and Neglect Fatalities (CECANF) will hold a public meeting May 19-20, 2015 at the Sheraton Salt Lake City, 150 W. 500 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84101.

 

On May 19, the meeting will take place from 8:00am-5:15pm MDT to hear testimony on key research, policy, and practices in the state of Utah related to addressing and preventing child abuse and neglect fatalities. On May 20, Commissioners will continue with deliberations from 8:00am-1:00pm MDT to discuss the work plans of the Commission subcommittees, the information they have obtained to date, and emerging high-level recommendations.

As the Commission undertakes its work, it seeks to launch a national dialogue on the issue of child abuse and neglect fatalities and to raise visibility and awareness about the problems. CECANF is also charged with studying data and best practices, and with engaging both stakeholders and the general public in discussions about what is working and what isn’t to help identify solutions for reducing child fatalities.

The Commission to Eliminate Child Abuse and Neglect Fatalities is a federal agency established by legislation to study and make recommendations on eliminating child abuse and neglect fatalities.  The Commission was formed as a result of the “Protect Our Kids Act” and is made up of six Presidential appointees and six Congressional appointees.
