SUPREME CUISINE RECALLS MEAT AND POULTRY FAT AND LARD PRODUCTS

DUE TO PROCESSING DEVIATION

WASHINGTON, June 17, 2017– Supreme Cuisine, a Montgomery City, Mo. establishment, is recalling approximately 325,000 pounds of meat and poultry fat and lard products due to a processing deviation, which may result in the potential growth and survival of bacterial pathogens in the products, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The duck, beef and pork fat and lard items were produced and packaged from June 1, 2016 through May 8, 2017. The products have a one-year shelf life.

Attached is a list of the products subject to this recall.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 34595” or “P-34595” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were sold through the internet and shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The problem was discovered after the firm received a consumer complaint of a loose lid from an internet customer.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify theircustomers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Epic Consumer Relations, at (844) 370-1971. Media with questions about the recall can contact Rob Litt at (763) 764-6364.

Consumers with food safety questions can "Ask Karen," the FSIS virtual representative available 24 hours a day at AskKaren.gov or via smartphone at m.askkaren.gov. The toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854) is available in English and Spanish and can be reached from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Eastern Time) Monday through Friday. Recorded food safety messages are available 24 hours a day. The online Electronic Consumer Complaint Monitoring System can be accessed 24 hours a day at: http://www.fsis.usda.gov/reportproblem.

Kevin Thornburgh releases ‘Cross Country’

Author’s 10th book deals with travel, running, Christian cross

WEST COVINA, Calif. – Writing on a personal account, Kevin Thornburgh writes about real people, especially for those who love running, in poetry book “Cross Country” (published by Xlibris).

Set in San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles, “Cross Country” is a collection of poems, tracing a journey from Pomona, California, to Union Station, Los Angeles, in which the poet picks up a hitchhiker whose name is the same as his long-dead sister. Poems fill the spaces of the journey, and the two finally get to Los Angeles. In the book, the narrator and the hitchhiker bring forth the narrative.

Thornburgh has been writing since 1982. “I have long been inspired by San Gabriel Valley history, puzzled about my sister, and was a marathon runner. I ran and coached cross country on the high school level.  It all fit together,” the author shares his inspiration in writing the book.

Through “Cross Country,” the author hopes to move readers with his poems, change perceptions and create new awareness.

WASHINGTON DC – The American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF) has just released its ratings for the 2017 meeting of the Utah State Legislature. These ratings, a portion of the comprehensive and nationwide ratings released by the ACUF, are designed to reflect how elected officials view the role of government and are helpful in illustrating how both chambers of the legislature as well as individual members’ prioritize a wide variety of issue areas that directly affect Utahans.

The ACUF has reviewed each piece of legislation voted on in both the Senate and House of Representatives to produce average scores for each chamber as well as individual scores for each sitting member.

Utah lawmakers took pen to paper on various issues during the 2017 legislative session including charter schools, motorcycle helmet regulations, welfare benefits, teacher pay flexibility, and even loosened up regulations on backyard barbeques. The 2017 Utah State Legislature saw both chambers working closely together, passing a good number of bills in both the House and the Senate. Most notably, the legislature voted to:

  • Require that a clear explanation be provided to voters for any ballot initiative that raises taxes, including the proposed tax increase;
  • Allow the State Board of Education to award a salary bonus to teachers who agree to work in high poverty rate schools and are deemed effective;
  • Create a provisional permit to carry a concealed firearm for those eligible between the ages of 18 and 21;
  • Raise the age at which an individual is allowed to operate a motorcycle without a helmet from age 18 to 21; and
  • Disallow the state to restrict the use of wood or charcoal for cooking.

The two chambers not only worked together to pass a handful of beneficial legislation this year but boosted their overall conservative score, suggesting the legislative body has seen moderate improvement this year. The Utah Senate’s average score increased by 7% points this year – from 62% in 2016 to 69% in 2017 – and the House’s score also increased by 7% - from 57% in 2016 to 64% this year.

The 2017 Ratings of Utah are attached to this email; you can also click here to view them online.
