CHELSEA FOOD SERVICES FIRM RECALLS PORK AND CHICKEN PRODUCTS

DUE TO POSSIBLE LISTERIA CONTAMINATION

WASHINGTON, Nov. 1, 2017 – Chelsea Food Services, doing business as Journey Cuisine, a Denver, Colo. establishment, is recalling approximately 28,064 pounds of pork and chicken burritos and wrap products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The ready-to-eat (RTE) pork and chicken burritos and wrap items were produced on various dates from Sept. 11, 2017 through Oct. 26, 2017. The following products are subject to recall:

  • 8-lb. case containing 16 frozen burritos of “KING Soopers BACON BREAKFAST BURRITO” with “Sell By” dates from 03/11/18 to 4/26/18.

  • 8-lb. case containing 16 frozen burritos of “KING Soopers CARNITAS POTATO BURRITO (Burrito Carnitas Caliente)” with “Sell By” dates from 03/11/18 to 4/26/18.

  • 8-lb. case containing 16 frozen burritos of “KING Soopers CHICKEN QUESO BURRITO” with “Sell By” dates from 03/11/18 to 4/26/18.

  • 4-lb. case containing 8 sandwich kits of “SHAMROCK FOODS GRILLED CHICKEN WRAP” with “Use By” dates from 9/16/17 to 10/31/17.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 19822” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

Journey Cuisine notified FSIS on Oct. 30, 2017 that one of its products, Burrito Carnitas Caliente, had tested positive for L. monocytogenes during the firm’s product testing. After a review of the ingredients used in the Burrito Carnitas Caliente, the company determined that four additional products may be affected. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.

Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected.

Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn. In addition, serious and sometimes fatal infections in older adults and persons with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.

FSIS and the company are concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers' freezers.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.

Members of the media with questions regarding the recall can contact Journey Cuisine’s media relations at (872) 825-8640. Consumers with questions regarding the recall can contact the company at (866) 596-2385.

More deaths go unanswered in NY: Staggering Numbers of Deaths in Cuomo’s New York State Mental Health Care System

Jonathan Carey "Champion for the Disabled" Born September 12,1993 Killed by caregivers on February 15,2007

More deaths within NY State's deadly “health care” system go unreported to coroner’s offices every day than the terror attack in NYC on Halloween of 2017

Most deaths occurring in State run or private facilities and group homes are never reported to local police, County elected District Attorney’s or even County Medical Examiners or Coroner’s.”

— Michael Carey

ALBANY, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, November 1, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Make no mistake about it; the horrific terror attack yesterday in New York City is tragic and incomprehensible. But the numbers of dead and injured simply pale in comparison to what occurs in N.Y. on a regular basis. Everyone must know the truth about what is going on with the full knowledge of the Governor of New York State. We have a dangerous and abusive mental health care system. More innocent people die every day in Governor Andrew Cuomo’s deadly system and statistics strongly indicate a large percentage of these are preventable deaths caused by gross negligence. The astronomical numbers of deaths internally reported on average every day are between 11 and 13, every single day. The governor’s top official, Jay Kiyonaga, has been knowingly directing deaths to be internally investigated by provider agencies where the deaths occurred – Kiyonaga is part of the scheme to cover-up negligent deaths. http://www.justicecenter.ny.gov/sites/default/files/documents/JusticeCenterDeathReportingClarification12-17-15.pdf.

It is as if this “specific group of people” who have autism, developmentally disabled or struggle with mental health issues are expendable and/or disposable to New York State. Most deaths occurring in State run or private facilities and group homes are never reported to local police, County elected District Attorney’s or even County Medical Examiners or Coroner’s. Quite frankly these practices are not only discriminatory, they are grossly illegal. It is obstruction of justice to keep crimes that occur against any citizen of our country from law enforcement authorities and local courts, but this is exactly the crime that Governor Andrew Cuomo has committed and he did it following a massive New York Times investigative reporting series titled “Abused and Used” which was a runner up for a Pulitzer Prize. A series that exposed the horrific truth about the state of NY’s health care system. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/nyregion/abused-and-used-series-page.html .

Governor Cuomo’s agency deceptively titled “the Justice Center” is not a Justice Center at all and is in fact primarily a whitewash/cover-up entity where the vast majority of internally reported physical and sexual assault crimes, as well as criminally negligent deaths of our most vulnerable, disappear. The failed and corrupt State agency was simply renamed and relocated by Governor Cuomo to give an appearance of change and reform, but in all reality, it was set up to continue the cover-up crimes and deaths. When crimes are purposefully kept from 911 and local authorities just about anything can be covered up and this is exactly what is happening in New York State with Governor Andrew Cuomo’s full knowledge and directive.

Here is just a sample of a small fraction of deaths of people with disabilities living in residential care facilities as reported on by the New York Times in this extremely damning investigative reporting series http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/06/nyregion/at-state-homes-simple-tasks-and-fatal-results.html The title and this enlightening piece paints a clear picture of wide-scale deaths of our most vulnerable – “In State Care, 1,200 deaths and Few Answers." What is going on behind closed in Governor Cuomo’s mental health care system is without question a culture of death and cover-ups http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/11/06/nyregion/deaths-database.html?action=click&contentCollection=N.Y.%20%2F%20Region&module=RelatedCoverage&region=Marginalia&pgtype=article . To hide and conceal damaging information and facts from authorities, as well as from families and the media, Governor Cuomo took defensive actions following the award winning “Abused and Used” series as exposed in this AP News pieces titled, “Cuomo’s office tightly controls records” http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sdut-cuomos-office-tightly-controls-public-records-2014oct23-story.html . As reported in this news story and directly quoted;

"Gov. Andrew Cuomo took office four years ago promising the most transparent administration in history, but journalists and advocacy groups say his office instead tightly controls requests for public records on anything controversial and routinely delays or denies their release.

For decades, responding to requests under New York's Freedom of Information Law was the responsibility of individual state agencies. Current and former state officials say that began to change a year into Cuomo's administration, and now such requests are often routed through the governor's legal counsel.

Travis Proulx, former director of communications for the state Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, said the shift was a reaction to an embarrassing story — a 2011 New York Times series on abuse of the disabled in state care that was based largely on public records.

"The agency FOILs records officer became a phone operator, not the point person," Proulx said. "All the process was taken out of their hands and their judgment and placed with the Second Floor," he said referring to the governor's offices on the second floor of the Capitol in Albany."

The tragedy of it all is that Governor Cuomo had the perfect opportunity to take numerous steps in 2011 to prevent further loss of innocent lives that could easily be saved, but instead he chose to do nothing. Many horrible deaths within care facilities and group homes are preventable. Governor Cuomo could have worked with Jonathan Carey’s father Michael to finally guarantee this extremely vulnerable group of people equal access to 911 emergency medical and police first responders. But the governor basically said to hell with the disabled and their equal rights. Jonathan Carey was only 13 years old when he was killed by his caregivers, Jonathan was developmentally disabled and had autism . You can read and watch what happened to Jonathan as reported by the New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/06/nyregion/boys-death-highlights-crisis-in-homes-for-disabled.html and https://www.nytimes.com/video/nyregion/100000000849083/a-failure-to-protect.html

Thousands die in New York State run or privately subcontracted facilities, between 4,000 and 5,000 a year and most of these deaths are never reported to County Medical Examiners and Coroners. The law requires all of these deaths to be investigated and the cause of death to be determined by County Medical Examiners or Coroners, yet New York State is ensuring that most never will be. New York State is not above the laws or the constitution and not only must they be exposed for this corruption and the purposeful cover-ups of most negligent deaths, they must be stopped. Here is a tiny glimpse into some deaths from the Times series http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/11/05/nyregion/selected-abuse-cases.html?action=click&contentCollection=N.Y.%20%2F%20Region&module=RelatedCoverage&region=Marginalia&pgtype=article . It is not just the Jonathan Carey Foundation alone that is exposing these horrors and atrocities and saying that Governor Cuomo has done nothing significant to stop or prevent them; the New York Times is saying the same thing http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/10/opinion/protecting-the-most-vulnerable.html . It is time to genuinely reform New York State extremely dangerous and deadly mental health care system.

No longer can 911 and local police be bypassed. 911 call systems must be immediately called by all victims, witnesses, and mandated reporters regarding all deaths. How can a person with a disability living outside of their family home have any chance if 911 is not called when they are victims of crimes or in medical distress? If you agree, please go to the Jonathan Carey Foundation website and sign the 911 Petition and please consider helping us fund the good fight to guarantee the civil rights of people with disabilities in State and private care facilities and group homes with a financial donation. This may be the biggest civil rights issue of our time.

Thank you.

Perdue Statement on House Passage of Resilient Federal Forests Act

(Washington, D.C., November 1, 2017) - Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue today applauded the U.S. House of Representatives for passing the Resilient Federal Forests Act of 2017 (H.R. 2936) as an important step toward better management of national forests. The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Bruce Westerman (AR-04), seeks to implement proactive management standards for forests and paves the way for a solution to the problem of U.S. Forest Service funding. In this record wildfire season, Secretary Perdue has repeatedly called for a fix to the “fire borrowing” problem, which siphons off forest management dollars to pay for firefighting. This year, the Forest Service has spent in excess of $2.5 billion fighting wildfires.

Perdue issued the following statement:

“Proper, proactive management of our national forests is essential so that we may preserve them as functional, productive forests that support the environment, economic development, and tourism. At the same time, we must care for our forests in a manner which mitigates the severity of the inevitable wildfires. To that point, this legislation helps facilitate the conversation about Forest Service funding, which continues to be a problem as we face escalating costs in battling wildfires. For too long, the Forest Service has had to borrow from prevention programs in order to fight fires, meaning that we risk leaving a heavy fuel load in the forests for future fires to burn. As the legislative process continues, I look forward to working with Congress as we all seek a comprehensive solution to put America’s forest back to work again.”
