AFP Applauds President Trump’s Call for Review of National Monument Designations
Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante land grabs called into question
Salt Lake City – Americans for Prosperity applauds the executive order signed today by President Donald Trump to review the national monument designations made by the past three presidents. Through the Antiquities Act, the federal government has seized millions of acres of land from the state of Utah without congressional approval. The seizure of these lands from the public and private citizens has restricted private and recreational uses.
Americans for Prosperity-Utah’s state director, Evelyn Everton released the following statement:
“Utah households have felt firsthand the problems of federal government overreach and the encroachment of state’s rights to manage our own lands. In fact, the federal government owns over 60 percent of the of the land here in Utah. The massive land grab of 1.35M acres in nearby Bears Ears was a prime example. The federal government has a history of wasting tax dollars by poorly managing the lands under its control. We are encouraged to see the Trump administration take a closer look at how to resolve an issue that has put Utah at a disadvantage since statehood. We will continue to work on the grassroots level here in Utah about the negative impact of these faulty land preservation techniques that impact our state."
Americans for Prosperity Vice President of External Affairs, Chrissy Harbin released the following statement:
“We applaud President Trump’s call on the Department of the Interior to review the controversial land grabs that took place by previous administrations. Partnering with our state chapters across the country, we look forward to working with the Department of the Interior and lawmakers in Congress to reform our country’s federal land polices and make them work better for states and private owners across the country.”

Melbourne, FL - April 27, 2017 - To Write Love on Her Arms founder and New York Times Best Selling Author Jamie Tworkowski has shared a new blog titled "In Response To 13 Reasons Why." The post, which has already been shared 9,000 times via Facebook and Twitter, reacts to the new Netflix original series that tells the story of a young girl who chooses to end her life and leaves behind a set of tapes explaining what led to her decision. In the post, Tworkowski reflects: "While we wish that the creators of 13 Reasons Why would have been more careful in how they chose to tell the story, we are thankful for the good that is coming as a result of this story being told. We're glad people are talking about mental health and suicide."
He goes on to offer his support for those who have chosen not to watch the show in light of their own recovery efforts, as well as those who watched and themselves felt triggered by the events portrayed. Tworkowski concludes with this hopeful reminder:
"As folks around the world continue to debate and discuss this fictional story, we hope you will remember that your true story is truly important. The things we hoped for Hannah, we hope them now for you - that your story would be rich with characters who know and love you, who fight for you instead of fighting you, people who remind you that you're priceless.
Life is worth living. The best is yet to come. Let's keep going."
